Overview

Pred Forte Opthalmic Suspension contains prednisolone acetate 1%, a potent corticosteroid formulated as an eye drop suspension. It is used to reduce inflammation in the eye following eye surgery (such as cataract surgery), and in conditions such as uveitis and other steroid-responsive inflammatory eye conditions.

Prednisolone acetate works by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and cytokines in the ocular tissue, reducing capillary permeability, swelling, and cell infiltration – the processes that drive redness, pain, and inflammation in the eye.

How it Works

As a corticosteroid, prednisolone acetate suppresses the inflammatory cascade in the eye by inhibiting the release of prostaglandins and other inflammatory chemicals, thereby reducing swelling, redness, and cellular infiltration in inflamed or post-surgical ocular tissue.

Directions for Use

Shake Pred Forte Opthalmic Suspension well before each use, since it is a suspension and the active ingredient can settle. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instil the prescribed number of drops without letting the dropper tip touch your eye or any other surface. If using more than one type of eye drop, wait at least 5-10 minutes between different products.

Dosage

Pred Forte Opthalmic Suspension is usually instilled as 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s), several times daily as directed by your ophthalmologist, and is often tapered gradually as your condition improves. The exact frequency and duration are individualised to your specific eye condition and response.

Shelf Life

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pred Forte Opthalmic Suspension used for?

Pred Forte Opthalmic Suspension is a steroid eye drop used to reduce inflammation in the eye, commonly after eye surgery or in conditions such as uveitis. Your ophthalmologist will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

Why do I need to shake the bottle before use?

This product is a suspension, meaning the active ingredient can settle at the bottom of the bottle over time. Shaking it well before each use ensures you get the correct, evenly distributed dose.

Why do I need regular eye pressure checks while using this medicine?

Corticosteroid eye drops can raise intraocular pressure with prolonged use, which can affect eye health if not monitored. Your ophthalmologist will check your eye pressure regularly during treatment.

Can I wear contact lenses while using this eye drop?

Generally, contact lenses should be avoided during treatment with this product unless your ophthalmologist advises otherwise, as they can affect how the medicine reaches the eye surface.

How long will I need to use this eye drop?

Duration depends on your specific condition and response – your ophthalmologist will often taper the dose gradually as your eye improves, rather than stopping it abruptly.
