Overview

Prime Aqueous Cream is a topical emollient cream manufactured by Prime Pharmaceutical Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian pharmaceutical company. It follows the classic aqueous cream formulation, combining purified water, liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, and emulsifying wax into a smooth, water-based cream base. This type of formulation is one of the most widely used base creams in pharmacy practice across Malaysia and is commonly stocked in both community pharmacies and hospitals.

Prime Aqueous Cream is an OTC product, available in Malaysia without a doctor’s prescription. It is presented as a soft, non-greasy cream intended for external use on the skin, and can also be used as a soap-free cleansing agent when applied and rinsed off, depending on how it is directed to be used. The formulation does not contain added fragrance beyond what is inherent in its base ingredients, a feature that distinguishes many aqueous cream products from heavily perfumed cosmetic moisturisers.

Prime Aqueous Cream is sold in Malaysia in a 500g tub, a larger format suited to regular daily application over an extended period. Compared with lighter lotions or gel-based moisturisers, its paraffin content gives it a thicker, more occlusive texture, a key feature that sets this category of cream apart from other topical skincare bases.

Directions for Use

Apply Prime Aqueous Cream to clean, dry skin and massage gently until it is absorbed. If it is being used as a soap-free cleanser, apply to wet skin, massage gently, and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Avoid applying the cream near the eyes or onto broken or infected skin unless directed otherwise by a doctor or pharmacist. Wash your hands before and after application if the cream is being used on a wound-adjacent or infection-prone area.

Dosage

Prime Aqueous Cream is a topical product, so a conventional oral “dose” does not apply. Apply a generous, even layer to the affected or dry area 2 to 3 times daily, or as often as needed, or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. There is no fixed maximum frequency, but if skin condition worsens or does not improve with regular use, stop self-treating and seek advice from a healthcare professional rather than increasing the amount applied.

Storage Instructions

Store Prime Aqueous Cream below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the lid tightly closed after each use to prevent contamination and drying out, and store out of the reach and sight of children. Avoid storing the tub in a humid bathroom cabinet for extended periods.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild redness at the site of application.
  • Common: Slight itching or a temporary stinging sensation, particularly on broken or very dry skin.
  • Serious: Signs of an allergic skin reaction, such as widespread rash, swelling, or blistering, which need prompt medical attention if they occur.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, emulsifying wax, or any other ingredient in Prime Aqueous Cream.
  • Application directly onto open wounds, infected skin, or broken skin, unless specifically directed by a doctor or pharmacist.
  • Use near the eyes or on mucous membranes.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Prime Aqueous Cream is for external use only, so oral drug interactions are not applicable.
  • Avoid applying other topical medicines to the same area at the same time without checking with a doctor or pharmacist, as combining products may affect absorption or increase the risk of irritation.
  • Some paraffin-based emollients can reduce the effectiveness of certain latex products, such as condoms and some rubber gloves, on contact; keep this in mind when using the cream in areas near such items.

Quick Tips

  • Apply to clean, dry skin for the best absorption.
  • Use a clean hand or spatula to remove cream from the tub to avoid contaminating the remaining product.
  • Keep the lid tightly closed between uses.
  • Do a small patch test first if you are using the cream for the first time and have sensitive skin.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes; rinse well with water if this happens.
  • Replace the tub if the cream separates, changes colour, or develops an unusual smell.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

The main ingredients in Prime Aqueous Cream include purified water, liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, and emulsifying wax. These work together to create a soothing, moisturizing barrier on your skin.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Do a small patch test before first use if you have particularly sensitive or reactive skin. Avoid applying Prime Aqueous Cream near the eyes, on open wounds, or on infected or broken skin unless a doctor or pharmacist has specifically advised you to do so. Use a clean hand or spatula each time to remove cream from the tub to reduce the risk of contamination.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Stop using Prime Aqueous Cream and seek medical advice if you develop a widespread rash, significant swelling, blistering, or any other sign of an allergic reaction. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist if your skin condition does not improve, or appears to worsen, despite regular and correct use of the cream.
