Overview

Restors Oral Powder is an oral electrolyte rehydration powder, formulated as a blend of oral rehydration salts including Glucose, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Trisodium Citrate, and other electrolytes and flavouring agents. It is sold in Malaysia as an over-the-counter (OTC) product, available without a doctor’s prescription. Each box contains individually sealed sachets of powder, designed to be dissolved in water before drinking.

Each sachet weighs 4.15g and is designed to be dissolved in 200ml of clean drinking water to form a single-serving solution. The formulation combines glucose with a set of electrolyte salts in a ratio intended to reflect the composition used in standard oral rehydration solutions, along with flavouring to make the prepared solution more palatable. A box of Restors Oral Powder contains 10 individual sachets, giving 10 separate 200ml servings when each is prepared according to the label.

Restors Oral Powder is presented as a powder rather than a ready-mixed liquid, meaning it has a longer shelf life before preparation and takes up less storage space than a pre-mixed drink. Each sachet is intended for single use — once mixed with water, the prepared solution is meant to be consumed and not stored for repeated use. The product’s electrolyte and glucose blend is representative of standard oral rehydration salt formulations sold over the counter across Malaysia and Singapore.

Directions for Use

Tear open one sachet along the marked edge and empty the entire contents into a clean container. Add 200ml of clean, safe drinking water and stir or shake until the powder is fully dissolved. Drink the prepared solution promptly after mixing; do not prepare it in advance and store it for later use. Use a fresh sachet and freshly measured water for each serving rather than reusing a partially mixed solution.

Dosage

Adults and children may take one sachet mixed with 200ml of water as needed, up to the amount stated on the pack or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. For young children, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted on an appropriate amount and frequency, since fluid needs vary by age and body weight. Do not use more concentrated mixtures than directed, as this can affect the balance of the solution.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the packaging. Once a sachet is opened and mixed with water, consume the prepared solution promptly and do not store it for later use, even if the printed expiry date on the box has not yet passed.

Storage Instructions

Store unopened sachets at room temperature, below 30°C, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep sachets in their original box until ready to use, and keep them out of the reach and sight of children. Do not store a prepared (mixed) solution for later use — mix a fresh sachet each time.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild stomach discomfort shortly after drinking the prepared solution.
  • Common: Occasional nausea.
  • Common: A change in the usual taste or texture of drinks if consumed alongside other beverages.
  • Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing, which needs urgent medical attention.
  • Serious: Swelling, reduced urination, or confusion after use, which may indicate an electrolyte imbalance and needs prompt medical review, particularly in people with kidney or heart conditions.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity (allergy) to Glucose, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Trisodium Citrate, or any other ingredient in this formulation.
  • Impaired kidney function or conditions affecting the body’s ability to regulate electrolytes, unless a doctor has advised on an appropriate amount.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes, unless a doctor has reviewed the glucose content and approved its use.
  • Persistent vomiting that prevents the solution from being retained, which needs medical assessment rather than continued self-administration.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • People taking medicines that affect potassium levels, such as certain diuretics or blood pressure medicines, should check with a doctor or pharmacist before regular use, as this product contains Potassium Chloride.
  • People taking medicines for diabetes should be aware that this product contains Glucose, which may affect blood sugar levels.
  • Mixing the sachet with a beverage other than plain water is not recommended, as this may alter the intended electrolyte concentration of the prepared solution.
  • No other specific drug interactions are established for typical short-term use.

Quick Tips

  • Always mix one full sachet with exactly 200ml of water rather than adjusting the ratio by eye.
  • Use freshly boiled and cooled, or otherwise clean drinking water, to prepare each sachet.
  • Prepare only as much solution as will be consumed promptly, rather than mixing several sachets in advance.
  • Keep unopened sachets in their original box, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
  • Check the expiry date on the box before opening a sachet.
  • Keep a spare sachet or two on hand when travelling, since a fresh sachet only needs clean water to prepare.
