Overview

Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF50+ is a gel-type sunscreen from the Skin Aqua line by Sunplay, the sun care brand from Mentholatum. With SPF50+ stated in its name, it is designed to help protect the face and body from sunburn while giving the skin a moisturised feel. The gel texture is designed to spread easily and feel light on the skin. It is suitable for everyday use, including as the final step of a morning skincare routine before makeup.

Many people in Malaysia prefer a lightweight sunscreen texture, since heavy creams can feel sticky in hot, humid weather. Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF50+ suits office workers, students and anyone who wants a sunscreen that layers comfortably under makeup. According to the manufacturer, the formula includes moisturising ingredients to help skin feel hydrated rather than tight. Please check the pack for the full ingredient list and PA rating.

Apply the gel generously to the face, neck and other exposed areas, and reapply at least every 2 hours when outdoors. Avoid the eye area, and rinse with water if the gel gets into the eyes. If you have sensitive or blemish-prone skin, do a patch test before first use. At the end of the day, cleanse your face thoroughly to remove sunscreen, sweat and makeup.

Directions for Use

  • Dispense a generous amount of gel into your palm.
  • Spread evenly over the face and other exposed skin as the last step of your skincare routine, before makeup.
  • Apply about 15 minutes before sun exposure and allow it to set.
  • Reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying.
  • Avoid the eye area; if the gel gets into the eyes, rinse with water.

Dosage

Apply generously before sun exposure, using enough to cover all exposed skin, and reapply at least every 2 hours. Reapply more often after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying. Use daily whenever you will be outdoors, including on cloudy days.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging and do not use sunscreen past this date, as protection may be reduced. After opening, check the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol, shown as an open jar icon, if it appears on the pack, and use the product within that period.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not leave the bottle in a hot car or in direct sun for long periods, such as on the beach; keep it in the shade or in a bag.
  • Close the cap tightly after each use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Sunscreens like this are generally well tolerated when used as directed.
  • Mild skin redness, stinging or irritation may occur, particularly on sensitive skin.
  • Stinging and watering may occur if the product gets into the eyes.
  • Some people may notice small bumps or a feeling of clogged pores, especially on oily or blemish-prone skin.
  • Rarely, an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling or itchiness may occur.
  • Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any irritation persists or worsens.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy: Do not use if you are sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the pack.
  • Broken skin: Do not apply to broken, wounded, sunburnt and blistered, or irritated skin.
  • Eyes: Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
  • Infants: For babies under 6 months, keep them out of direct sun and ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any sunscreen.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Food: No known food interactions.
  • Topical treatments: If you are using prescribed topical treatments, check with your doctor or pharmacist before layering sunscreen over them.
  • Photosensitising medicines: Some medicines can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight; ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you need extra sun protection.
  • Insect repellent: If using insect repellent, apply sunscreen first and allow it to set before applying the repellent.

Quick Tips

  • Use sunscreen together with shade, a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing.
  • Try to limit time in direct sun during the strongest hours of the day, roughly late morning to mid-afternoon.
  • Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days, as UV rays can still reach the skin.
  • Use enough product; a thin layer gives less protection than the label suggests.
  • Use about two finger-lengths of product for the face and neck.
  • Cleanse your skin at the end of the day to remove sunscreen, sweat and dirt.

Relevant Information

For external use only. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on a small area, such as the inner forearm, 24 hours before first use. Keep out of reach of children.

Sunscreen is one part of sun protection and should not be used to extend the time you spend in the sun. If you get sunburnt, or notice a new or changing mole or skin spot, speak to a doctor.
