Overview

Sunplay Ultra Shield UV SPF50+ Body Mist is a spray-on sunscreen from Sunplay, the sun care brand from Mentholatum, designed for quick and convenient body sun protection. With SPF50+ stated in its name, it is intended to help protect exposed skin from sunburn during daily outdoor activities. The mist format makes it easy to cover larger areas such as the arms, legs, back and shoulders. It is also handy for topping up protection during the day.

In Malaysia’s hot, humid weather, many people prefer a light, spray-on sunscreen that is quick to apply over the body. Sunplay Ultra Shield UV SPF50+ Body Mist suits commuters, outdoor workers and anyone running errands in the sun. Because sprays can leave gaps, it is best to spray generously and spread the product with your hand for even coverage. Reapplying at least every 2 hours, and after sweating or swimming, helps maintain protection.

For the face, spray the mist into your palms first and then apply, rather than spraying directly onto the face, to avoid the eyes and inhaling the spray. Keep the bottle away from heat and flames, and follow all warnings printed on the pack. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test before first use. Sunscreen works best alongside shade, a hat and protective clothing.

Directions for Use

  • Shake well before use.
  • Hold the bottle at a short distance from the skin and spray evenly over exposed areas until the skin is visibly covered.
  • Spread with your hand to make sure the coverage is even.
  • For the face, spray into your palms first and then apply; do not spray directly onto the face.
  • Reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying.

Dosage

Apply generously before sun exposure, using enough to cover all exposed skin, and reapply at least every 2 hours. Reapply more often after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying. Use daily whenever you will be outdoors, including on cloudy days.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging and do not use sunscreen past this date, as protection may be reduced. After opening, check the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol, shown as an open jar icon, if it appears on the pack, and use the product within that period.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not leave the bottle in a hot car or in direct sun for long periods, such as on the beach; keep it in the shade or in a bag.
  • Keep away from heat sources and open flames; if the pack is an aerosol, do not puncture or burn it, even when empty.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Sunscreens like this are generally well tolerated when used as directed.
  • Mild skin redness, stinging or irritation may occur, particularly on sensitive skin.
  • Stinging and watering may occur if the product gets into the eyes.
  • Some people may notice small bumps or a feeling of clogged pores, especially on oily or blemish-prone skin.
  • Rarely, an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling or itchiness may occur.
  • Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any irritation persists or worsens.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy: Do not use if you are sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the pack.
  • Broken skin: Do not apply to broken, wounded, sunburnt and blistered, or irritated skin.
  • Eyes: Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
  • Infants: For babies under 6 months, keep them out of direct sun and ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any sunscreen.
  • Inhalation: Do not spray near the face or inhale the spray.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Food: No known food interactions.
  • Topical treatments: If you are using prescribed topical treatments, check with your doctor or pharmacist before layering sunscreen over them.
  • Photosensitising medicines: Some medicines can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight; ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you need extra sun protection.
  • Insect repellent: If using insect repellent, apply sunscreen first and allow it to set before applying the repellent.

Quick Tips

  • Use sunscreen together with shade, a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing.
  • Try to limit time in direct sun during the strongest hours of the day, roughly late morning to mid-afternoon.
  • Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days, as UV rays can still reach the skin.
  • Use enough product; a thin layer gives less protection than the label suggests.
  • Cleanse your skin at the end of the day to remove sunscreen, sweat and dirt.

Relevant Information

For external use only. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on a small area, such as the inner forearm, 24 hours before first use. Keep out of reach of children.

Sunscreen is one part of sun protection and should not be used to extend the time you spend in the sun. If you get sunburnt, or notice a new or changing mole or skin spot, speak to a doctor.
