Overview

Uriage Bariesun Mineral Cream SPF50+ is a facial sunscreen cream from Bariesun, the sun care range by the French dermo-cosmetic brand Uriage. As its name suggests, it uses mineral UV filters to provide SPF50+ protection against UVB rays. Mineral sunscreens are often chosen by people with sensitive or reactive skin who prefer to avoid chemical filters. It is designed for daily use as well as time spent outdoors.

Mineral filters sit on the surface of the skin and help reflect and scatter UV rays. Because of this, mineral sunscreens can leave a slight white cast, particularly if not blended well, so it helps to apply in thin layers and build up to a generous amount. Like other Uriage products, it is formulated with Uriage Thermal Water, according to the brand. As with any sunscreen, it must be applied generously and reapplied often to maintain protection.

Malaysia’s high UV levels throughout the year make daily sun protection important for every skin type, including sensitive skin. A mineral cream offers an option for those who find some sunscreens uncomfortable on their skin. It should be used together with shade, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, especially between late morning and afternoon. Check the ingredient list on the pack if you need to know the specific filters used.

Directions for Use

  • Apply Uriage Bariesun Mineral Cream SPF50+ generously and evenly to the face and neck before sun exposure, as the last step of your morning skincare routine.
  • Avoid the immediate eye area.
  • Reapply frequently throughout the day, especially after swimming, sweating or towelling.
  • Remove at the end of the day with a gentle cleanser.

Dosage

Apply Uriage Bariesun Mineral Cream SPF50+ every day before going outdoors and reapply frequently, at least every 2 hours during prolonged sun exposure and after swimming, sweating or towelling. Using too little reduces the level of protection, so apply generously.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the pack. Once opened, check the period-after-opening symbol (an open jar icon) on the packaging and use the product within that period. Do not use sunscreen past its expiry date, as protection may be reduced.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place.
  • Do not leave in a hot car or in direct sunlight for long periods; keep it shaded in your bag at the beach or pool.
  • Close the cap tightly after each use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Uriage Bariesun Mineral Cream SPF50+ is generally well tolerated when used as directed.
  • Mild stinging, especially if the product gets close to the eyes.
  • Redness or irritation in individuals sensitive to sunscreen filters or other ingredients.
  • Clogged pores or a heavy feel on the skin in some users.
  • Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any reaction persists or worsens.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you are allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients, including sunscreen filters.
  • Do not apply to broken or sunburnt skin.
  • Avoid direct contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse well with water.
  • Babies and young children should be kept out of direct sunlight; check with a doctor or pharmacist before using sunscreen on infants.
  • For external use only.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • No known food interactions.
  • If you are taking medicines that may increase sun sensitivity, take extra care in the sun and check with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you are using prescribed topical treatments, check with your doctor or pharmacist about the order of application.

Quick Tips

  • Apply sunscreen about 15–20 minutes before going outdoors.
  • Use sunscreen every day, including on cloudy days — UV levels in Malaysia stay high all year.
  • Seek shade between 11am and 4pm when the sun is strongest.
  • Combine sunscreen with a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing.
  • Reapply after swimming, heavy sweating or towelling.
  • Do not rely on sunscreen alone to stay out in the sun for longer.

Relevant Information

No sunscreen offers complete protection from UV rays. Sunscreen should be used as part of a broader sun-protection routine that includes shade, protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses.

Carry out a patch test on a small area of skin before first use if you have sensitive skin. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children.
