Overview

Vasican 8mg Tablet is an oral tablet containing Bromhexine Hydrochloride at a strength of 8mg per tablet. Bromhexine belongs to the mucolytic class of respiratory medicines, which act on the physical consistency of mucus in the airways. The product is sold in a 10s strip pack in Malaysia and is registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

At the 8mg oral tablet strength, Bromhexine-based products are commonly supplied as a pharmacy medicine across the region, including in neighbouring Singapore, where oral solid formulations containing 8mg or less are recognised as suitable for supply without an individual prescription. Vasican tablets are small, film-coated, and intended to be swallowed whole with water.

Several Bromhexine-containing brands are available in Malaysia at the same or similar strengths; always check the active ingredient and strength printed on the strip to confirm you have the correct product, particularly if switching between brands with similar packaging.

Directions for Use

Take the tablet with a full glass of water, preferably after a meal to reduce the chance of stomach discomfort.

Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split it unless a pharmacist has advised otherwise.

Drink plenty of fluids through the day while taking this tablet, as adequate hydration supports the way Bromhexine works on mucus consistency.

Dosage

The usual adult dosage is 8mg to 16mg taken up to three times a day, depending on the severity of symptoms, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist.

Dosing for children should follow specific paediatric guidance rather than the adult dose, and this product should not be given to children under 2 years of age.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep tablets in their original blister strip until just before use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from bathroom humidity.
  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin rash or allergic reactions (rare)
  • Dizziness

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Bromhexine or related mucolytic compounds.
  • Children under 2 years of age.
  • Active peptic ulcer disease, unless a doctor has assessed suitability, since Bromhexine may affect the stomach lining in sensitive individuals.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Bromhexine has been reported to increase the amount of certain antibiotics, such as amoxicillin and erythromycin, that reach lung tissue; a doctor may take this into account when prescribing a combination.
  • Use with caution alongside other cough or cold preparations that also contain a mucolytic or expectorant, to avoid duplicate active ingredients.
  • No significant food interactions have been established; the tablet may be taken with or without meals, though taking it after food can reduce stomach discomfort.

Quick Tips

  • Take the tablet after a meal to help reduce the chance of stomach upset.
  • Drink extra water or fluids through the day while using this product.
  • Do not exceed the maximum daily dose printed on the packaging.
  • Check with a pharmacist before combining with other cough and cold products to avoid duplicate ingredients.
  • Keep the tablets in their blister strip until ready to use, to protect them from moisture.
  • If symptoms persist beyond a week, or worsen, speak with a doctor rather than continuing self-treatment indefinitely.
