Overview

Vismed 0.3% Gel is a gel with in Vismed 0 declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 20s.

This is an over-the-counter (OTC) product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. Twist or snap open a single-dose vial just before use. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and squeeze one drop of gel into the eye without letting the vial tip touch the eye or eyelid. Blink gently to help distribute the gel across the eye surface.

Each vial is intended for immediate use only — discard the vial and any remaining gel after use, and do not save an opened vial for later. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting, and if you use other eye drops as well, space them at least 5-10 minutes apart from this gel.

Dosage

The typical adult dose is 1 drop of gel instilled into the affected eye(s), used two to four times a day or as needed, or as advised by an eye care professional. Because of its higher viscosity, some people find it more comfortable to use at night or before periods without visual tasks, since it may cause temporary blurring immediately after application. If symptoms persist or worsen despite regular use, or if you need to use it much more frequently than advised, stop self-treating and consult a doctor or optometrist.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the vial strip and outer carton. As this is a preservative-free single-dose formulation, each individual vial is intended for one application only and any unused gel remaining in an opened vial should not be kept for later use, regardless of the product’s overall expiry date.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep unopened vials in their original strip or carton until ready to use, and keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use a vial if the seal is already broken or the gel appears discoloured or contaminated.

Side Effects

  • Common: temporary blurred vision immediately after application due to the gel’s thicker consistency.
  • Common: mild stinging or a sensation of heaviness on the eye surface for a short time after use.
  • Serious: allergic reaction with redness, swelling, itching, or eyelid rash — discontinue use and seek medical advice if this occurs.
  • Serious: worsening eye pain, discharge, or vision changes persisting beyond a few days, which need prompt medical review.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to sodium hyaluronate or any other ingredient in the formulation.
  • Do not use a vial with a broken seal, or gel that looks discoloured or contaminated.
  • Not intended for use in eyes with a suspected active infection, penetrating injury, or shortly after eye surgery unless specifically advised by a doctor.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • As a topical, preservative-free eye gel with minimal systemic absorption, no clinically meaningful drug or food interactions are known.
  • If using other eye drops or ointments alongside this gel, apply this thicker gel last and space applications at least 5-10 minutes apart so it does not dilute or wash out other products applied before it.
  • No specific food or beverage interactions are known for this product.

Quick Tips

  • Keep a strip of vials in your bag or bedside drawer since each vial is single-use and cannot be resealed for later.
  • Use the gel shortly before bedtime if daytime blurring from its thicker texture is inconvenient for you.
  • Apply this gel after any other, thinner eye drops so it is not washed away before it can settle onto the eye surface.
  • Give the gel a minute or two to settle before reading or using screens, as vision can be briefly hazy right after application.
  • Store the vial strip somewhere cool — avoid leaving it in a hot car or direct sun, which can affect the gel’s consistency.
  • If you find yourself using more than one vial in quick succession for the same eye, mention this to your pharmacist for further assessment.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

The active ingredient in Vismed 0.3% Gel is Sodium Hyaluronate (0.3%). Other ingredients include sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, citrate buffer, and water for injections.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Vismed 0.3% Gel is for external, topical use in the eye only. Contact lens wearers should remove lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Vision may be temporarily blurred after application, so avoid driving or operating machinery until your sight is clear. Pregnant or breastfeeding women can generally use this topical, preservative-free gel, but should check with a pharmacist if concerned, and use in young children should be supervised by an adult.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Stop using the gel and see a doctor, optometrist, or pharmacist if you experience eye pain, sudden vision loss or changes, persistent redness, unusual discharge, or if your symptoms do not improve or worsen despite regular use. Needing the gel much more frequently than before can also be a sign that an underlying eye condition needs a proper eye examination rather than more self-treatment.
