Overview

Viusid Sachet is a powdered nutritional supplement from Viusid, a product line developed by the Spanish laboratory Catalysis, S.L. Each sachet contains a single serving of powder that is dissolved in water before drinking. The formula combines amino acids and related compounds (arginine, glucosamine and malic acid), glycyrrhizin (glycyrrhizinic acid, a natural compound from licorice root) and a group of vitamins and minerals.

The vitamin and mineral component includes vitamin C, zinc (as zinc sulfate), calcium pantothenate (vitamin B5), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), folic acid and cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12). Vitamin C and zinc contribute to the normal function of the immune system, while vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid are involved in normal energy-yielding metabolism and red blood cell formation. Arginine is an amino acid the body uses to make proteins and nitric oxide, and malic acid takes part in the body’s normal energy cycle.

Because the sachet contains glycyrrhizin from licorice, it is not suitable for everyone: people with high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems, low potassium levels, or who are pregnant should speak to a doctor or pharmacist first. Viusid Sachet is intended for adults as a dietary supplement alongside a balanced diet, not as a replacement for medical treatment. Please refer to the product label for the exact amount of each ingredient per sachet and for the pack size supplied.

Directions for Use

Empty the contents of 1 sachet into a glass of water, stir until dissolved and drink immediately after stirring. It can be taken with or without food.

Do not prepare the drink in advance or store the dissolved solution. Follow the serving instructions on the product label, or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage

Adults: 1 sachet 2 to 3 times daily, or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Because the product contains glycyrrhizin from licorice, long-term or higher-than-recommended use should only be undertaken under the advice of a healthcare professional. Use in children should only be considered on the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep sachets sealed until use and keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild bloating, stomach discomfort or occasional nausea.
  • Common: A metallic or unusual taste after drinking.
  • Serious: Swelling of the ankles or legs, raised blood pressure, muscle weakness or cramps, or irregular heartbeat, which can be signs of fluid retention or low potassium linked to glycyrrhizin (licorice). Stop using the product and seek medical advice if these occur.
  • Serious: Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face or lips, or difficulty breathing. Seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy or sensitivity to any ingredient in the product, including licorice (glycyrrhizin) or glucosamine. Glucosamine is often derived from shellfish, so people with a shellfish allergy should check the label or consult a pharmacist first.
  • High blood pressure (hypertension) that is uncontrolled, heart failure, or other significant heart disease, unless approved by a doctor.
  • Kidney disease or low blood potassium (hypokalaemia), unless approved by a doctor.
  • Pregnancy, as licorice-derived glycyrrhizin is generally advised against during pregnancy.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Blood pressure medicines and diuretics: glycyrrhizin can raise blood pressure and lower potassium, which may reduce the effect of antihypertensive medicines and add to potassium loss caused by diuretics (water pills).
  • Digoxin and other heart rhythm medicines: low potassium caused by glycyrrhizin may increase the risk of side effects from these medicines.
  • Corticosteroids (such as prednisolone): glycyrrhizin may increase steroid-related effects, including fluid retention and potassium loss.
  • Warfarin and other blood thinners: glucosamine and licorice have been reported to affect warfarin response; your INR may need closer monitoring.
  • Tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics: zinc can reduce their absorption; separate doses by at least 2 hours.
  • Other licorice products and supplements: avoid taking other licorice-containing products, herbal teas or supplements with the same vitamins and minerals to prevent excessive intake.

Quick Tips

  • Dissolve each sachet freshly in water and drink it straight away.
  • Spread your daily servings evenly through the day and do not take more than the recommended amount.
  • If you have high blood pressure, check your readings regularly while using a licorice-containing supplement.
  • Let your doctor or pharmacist know you are taking Viusid Sachet, especially if you use blood pressure, heart or diuretic medicines.
  • Check your other supplements for vitamin C, zinc and B vitamins to avoid doubling up.
  • Keep sachets sealed in a dry place, as the powder can absorb moisture once opened.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Viusid Sachet contains glycyrrhizin from licorice, which can cause fluid retention, raised blood pressure and low potassium, particularly with higher amounts or prolonged use. Use with caution if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes or low potassium, and avoid use during pregnancy. People with a shellfish allergy should check the source of glucosamine on the label. This supplement does not replace a balanced diet or treatment prescribed by your doctor.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you take blood pressure medicines, diuretics, heart medicines, steroids or blood thinners, or if you have a long-term medical condition. Stop using the product and seek medical advice if you develop swelling of the legs, headache, palpitations, muscle weakness or signs of an allergic reaction.
