Overview

Zindaclin 1% Gel is supplied as a gel, with Clindamycin phosphate equivalent to clindamycin 1%. It is supplied in a pack size of 30g.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Wash and gently dry the affected area before use. Apply a thin layer of Zindaclin 1% Gel once daily to the areas of skin affected by acne, avoiding the eyes, lips, and any broken or irritated skin; wash your hands after application unless the hands are part of the treated area. It is usually applied at the same time each day, and other topical acne products should not be applied to the same area at the same time unless a pharmacist or doctor has advised this.

Dosage

Zindaclin 1% Gel is applied once daily as a thin layer to the affected areas, usually in the evening. It should be used for the full course of treatment recommended, often around 10 to 12 weeks, as improvement in acne typically takes several weeks to become noticeable, and stopping too early may allow acne to return.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C, away from direct heat and sunlight, with the cap tightly closed after use; keep out of reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Skin dryness
  • Itching or a slight burning sensation
  • Skin peeling or redness
  • Oily skin
  • Irritation at the application site

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any ingredient in the gel
  • History of antibiotic-associated colitis, such as pseudomembranous colitis, linked to clindamycin or lincomycin
  • Active inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease (caution advised)

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other topical acne treatments containing erythromycin — should not be used together, as this can reduce effectiveness
  • Other strong topical exfoliants or irritant acne products, such as high-strength benzoyl peroxide or retinoids, used at the same time without guidance — may increase skin irritation
  • Neuromuscular blocking agents (relevant mainly with injectable clindamycin, not topical use) — a clinically significant interaction with topical use is unlikely, but caution is still reasonable

Quick Tips

  • Apply only a thin layer — using more gel does not speed up results and increases the risk of irritation
  • Avoid using with other topical acne treatments, particularly those containing erythromycin, unless advised by a pharmacist or doctor
  • Give the treatment several weeks of consistent use before judging its effect
  • Use a non-comedogenic sunscreen during the day, as treated skin can be more sensitive to sun exposure
  • Stop use and seek medical advice if you develop severe or persistent diarrhoea, as this can rarely indicate a serious bowel reaction
  • Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and mucous membranes; rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Clindamycin phosphate equivalent to clindamycin 1%
  • Carbomer
  • Sodium hydroxide
  • Purified water

Relevant Information

Zindaclin 1% Gel is intended for inflammatory acne of the face and is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Because combining it with certain other topical antibiotics or acne treatments can reduce its effectiveness or increase irritation, it should not be combined with other topical acne medicines without checking with a pharmacist or doctor first, and any severe or persistent diarrhoea during treatment should be reported promptly, as this is a recognised, though rare, caution associated with topical clindamycin absorption.
