What is Rybelsus and why are there three strengths?
Rybelsus is a once-daily semaglutide tablet made by Novo Nordisk, used with diet and exercise to manage blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to the GLP-1 receptor agonist class and is registered with the NPRA.
The three strengths are steps in a dose plan, not alternative products:
- 3mg: the starting dose, taken for the first 30 days so the body can adjust to semaglutide.
- 7mg: the usual continuing dose once the starting month is complete.
- 14mg: a higher dose your doctor may prescribe if more blood sugar control is needed.
Take one tablet each morning on an empty stomach with no more than 120ml of plain water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea and reduced appetite.
