Deep Cold Ice Gel Therapy

Deep Cold Ice Gel Therapy is a topical gel formulated with menthol, camphor, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptus oil, presented in a clear, fast-absorbing gel base. It belongs to the category of topical counterirritant/rubefacient preparations sold widely as an over-the-counter (OTC) product at Malaysian and Singapore pharmacies. The gel is applied externally to intact skin and is not intended for oral or internal use.

Each of the four active ingredients belongs to a well-established class of topical agents: menthol and camphor are aromatic compounds long used in topical preparations, methyl salicylate is a salicylate ester structurally related to aspirin, and eucalyptus oil is an essential oil commonly included in liniments and rubs. The combination gives the gel its characteristic strong menthol scent and cooling sensory profile on the skin.

Deep Cold Ice Gel Therapy is sold in a 100g tube (pack sizes may vary by retailer) and is packaged for external, topical application only. As an OTC product, it can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription, though people with sensitive skin, salicylate allergy, or other health conditions should review the contraindications and precautions below, or check with a pharmacist, before regular use.

• Wash and dry the affected area of skin before each application.
• Squeeze a thin, even layer of gel onto the skin over the affected area.
• Massage gently in a circular motion until the gel is fully absorbed.
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after application, unless treating the hands themselves.
• Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes, and do not apply to broken, irritated, or recently shaved skin.
• Do not cover the treated area with an airtight bandage or apply external heat (such as a heating pad or hot water bottle) directly over it.

Deep Cold Ice Gel Therapy is intended for adults and children over 12 years old. Apply a thin layer to the affected area up to 3 to 4 times a day, leaving at least a few hours between applications. Do not apply to more than one body area at the same time without pharmacist advice, and discontinue use if the treated area does not improve within 7 days or if pain worsens.

Use before the expiry date printed on the tube and carton. Once opened, use within the manufacturer’s stated period on the packaging (commonly within 12 months of first opening for topical gels), and discard the tube if the gel changes colour, separates, or develops an unusual odour.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly capped after use, and keep out of reach and sight of children and pets.

• Common: A cooling or tingling sensation on the skin shortly after application.
• Common: Mild, temporary redness or warmth at the application site.
• Uncommon: Mild itching or a burning sensation, especially on sensitive skin.
• Serious: Blistering, severe burning, or skin peeling, which may indicate a chemical burn and needs prompt medical attention.
• Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, widespread rash, swelling of the face or lips, or difficulty breathing, which require urgent medical care.

• Known allergy or hypersensitivity to menthol, camphor, methyl salicylate, salicylates (including aspirin), eucalyptus oil, or any other ingredient in the gel.
• Broken, grazed, infected, or recently irritated skin at the intended application site.
• Children under 12 years old, unless advised by a doctor or pharmacist.
• Use on the face, eyes, mouth, nose, genitals, or other mucous membranes.

• Avoid applying at the same time as, or immediately before/after, other topical products containing menthol, camphor, or salicylates (such as other heat/cooling rubs, medicated plasters, or wintergreen-containing balms), as this can increase the risk of skin irritation or excess salicylate absorption.
• Do not use together with a heating pad, hot water bottle, or heat wrap over the same area, as added heat can increase absorption of methyl salicylate through the skin and the risk of burns.
• People taking oral anticoagulant medicines (such as warfarin) should check with a pharmacist or doctor before regular or large-area use, as topical salicylates can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
• No specific food interactions are known for this topical product, as it is not taken by mouth.

• Perform a small patch test on a small area of skin before first full use, especially if you have sensitive skin.
• Wash hands immediately after application unless the hands are the area being treated.
• Do not apply immediately before or after a hot shower, bath, sauna, or heating pad use.
• Keep the tube cap tightly closed between uses to prevent the gel from drying out.
• Avoid tight, non-breathable clothing over a freshly applied area until the gel has fully absorbed.
• Store away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and keep out of reach of children.
