Xepa Bena Expectorant

Xepa Bena Expectorant is a diphenhydramine-based cough medicine formulated to help relieve a wet, productive cough with phlegm. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, a first-generation sedating antihistamine, provides an antihistaminic and mild central cough-suppressant action that helps settle an irritating, allergy-related cough, while the product’s expectorant formulation helps loosen and thin mucus in the airway so that phlegm can be coughed up and cleared more easily.

Xepa Bena Expectorant is intended for cough with phlegm rather than a purely dry, tickly cough, and — like other diphenhydramine-containing cough medicines — it can cause drowsiness, so it is often taken when sedation will not be a problem, such as in the evening. It is sold without a doctor’s prescription in Malaysia for use in adults and older children according to the directions on the product label.

Diphenhydramine blocks histamine H1 receptors and has central sedating and drying (anticholinergic) effects that help reduce the cough reflex and ease allergy-related cough symptoms, while the expectorant component of the formulation increases the water content of airway secretions, making thick phlegm thinner and easier to cough up and clear from the chest.

Take Xepa Bena Expectorant by mouth using the measuring cup or spoon supplied with the pack, shaking the bottle well before each use, and space doses evenly through the day as directed on the label; because it can cause drowsiness, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

Dosing is age-based and should follow the directions on the product label or your pharmacist’s advice; adults and older children are generally given a higher dose than young children, taken several times a day as needed for cough with phlegm, up to the maximum stated on the packaging. This expectorant is not generally recommended for very young children without a doctor’s or pharmacist’s specific advice.

Use Xepa Bena Expectorant before the expiry date printed on the bottle or carton, and discard any unused syrup after the in-use period stated on the label once opened.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, keep the cap tightly closed between doses, and store out of the sight and reach of children.

• Check other cold, flu, allergy, or sleep products you’re taking to avoid duplicating diphenhydramine
• Take care if you need to drive or operate machinery, as it can cause drowsiness
• Stay well hydrated to support the expectorant action
• Use the measuring cup or spoon provided for an accurate dose
• See a doctor if the cough lasts more than a week, or is accompanied by fever, chest pain, or breathlessness

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: See a doctor or pharmacist if the cough persists beyond about a week, worsens, or is accompanied by fever, coloured or blood-stained phlegm, chest pain, or breathing difficulty, as these may indicate a condition needing further assessment.
