Overview

Avetaprost (Lataprost) 0.005% Eye Drop contains latanoprost 0.005%, a prostaglandin F2-alpha analogue eye drop used to reduce raised pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Lowering eye pressure helps protect the optic nerve from further damage.

Latanoprost works by increasing the outflow of the fluid inside the eye (aqueous humour) through the uveoscleral drainage pathway. This extra drainage route lowers the pressure inside the eye, which is the main modifiable risk factor in glaucoma.

How it Works

Latanoprost is a prodrug that is hydrolysed in the cornea to its active acid form, which acts as a selective agonist at the FP prostanoid receptor. This increases uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humour, lowering intraocular pressure without significantly affecting fluid production.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and instil one drop into the pouch formed, avoiding contact between the dropper tip and the eye or any surface. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before instilling {title_en} and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. If you use other eye drops, space them at least 5 minutes apart from this product.

Dosage

The usual dose of Avetaprost (Lataprost) 0.005% Eye Drop is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening. Using it more than once daily may actually reduce its pressure-lowering effect, so always follow your ophthalmologist’s instructions on frequency and which eye(s) to treat.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Avetaprost (Lataprost) 0.005% Eye Drop used for?

Avetaprost (Lataprost) 0.005% Eye Drop is used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, which helps protect your optic nerve and vision over the long term.

Will latanoprost change the colour of my eyes?

With long-term use, latanoprost can gradually increase brown pigment in the iris, which may permanently darken eye colour, and can also lengthen, darken, or thicken the eyelashes. This effect is more noticeable if only one eye is treated. Speak to your ophthalmologist if you are concerned.

Can I use this eye drop with my contact lenses in?

No. Remove contact lenses before instilling the drop, as the preservative in the solution can be absorbed by soft lenses. You may reinsert your lenses about 15 minutes after using the drop.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Avetaprost (Lataprost) 0.005% Eye Drop?

Instil the missed drop as soon as you remember on the same day, but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule. Do not use two drops at once.

Why must I not use this medicine more than once a day?

Using latanoprost more frequently than once daily can reduce its ability to lower eye pressure and does not provide extra benefit, so always stick to the frequency your doctor has prescribed.
