Nasonex 0.05% Aqueous Nasal Spray

Nasonex 0.05% Aqueous Nasal Spray contains mometasone furoate, a potent corticosteroid delivered directly into the nasal passages to reduce the inflammation, swelling, and mucus production that cause nasal congestion, sneezing, and a runny or itchy nose. It is widely used for the treatment and prevention of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever) in both adults and children, and is also sometimes used to help manage nasal polyps.

Because Nasonex is a corticosteroid-based nasal spray, it is classified as a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. A doctor’s assessment is required to confirm that allergic rhinitis (rather than an infection or another condition) is the cause of symptoms, and to determine the correct dose and duration of use, particularly for long-term or repeated courses.

Mometasone furoate works locally within the lining of the nose by blocking the release of inflammatory chemicals such as histamine and prostaglandins that are triggered when the nasal tissue is exposed to allergens like dust mites, pollen, or pet dander. By calming this local immune response, it reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa, decreases mucus secretion, and eases congestion, sneezing, and itching, with minimal absorption into the rest of the body when used as directed.

Before first use, the spray pump should be primed by shaking the bottle and pressing it several times until a fine, even mist is produced.
