Overview

NovoMix 30 FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen is a prescription-only medicine (POM) presented as a medicine, with Biphasic insulin aspart (30% soluble / 70% protaminated) 100U/ml as its active ingredient content.

This page is limited to product, safety and handling information, in line with Malaysian rules on prescription medicine information for the public. Your prescriber or pharmacist is the right source for anything beyond that, together with the leaflet inside the pack.

Through DoctorOnCall, this product is supplied after an online consultation with a licensed doctor and a valid prescription, and it is checked by a registered pharmacist before dispensing. Take it exactly as prescribed, and speak to your doctor before stopping, changing the dose, or starting any other medicine alongside it.

Directions for Use

Before injecting NovoMix 30 FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen, gently roll and tip the pen several times to resuspend the insulin evenly, as it is a suspension that separates on standing – do not shake vigorously. Inject subcutaneously shortly before a meal, rotating the injection site each time, and ensure you eat shortly afterwards to match the rapid-acting component.

Dosage

The dose of NovoMix 30 FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen is individualised by your doctor based on your blood glucose readings, meal pattern, and overall diabetes treatment plan, and is usually injected once or twice daily (commonly before breakfast and dinner). Never change your dose without your doctor’s specific instruction.

Storage Instructions

Before first use, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C); do not freeze, and do not use if it has been frozen. Once a pen/cartridge is in use (or carried as a spare), it may be kept at room temperature (below 30°C), away from direct heat and light, for up to 4 weeks; discard it after that period even if some insulin remains, and never share a pen between patients.

Side Effects

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • Weight gain
  • Injection site redness or swelling
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating or shakiness

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any ingredient in this product
  • During episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other glucose-lowering medicines increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined
  • Beta-blockers and certain other medicines can mask early warning symptoms of hypoglycemia
  • Corticosteroids and some hormonal medicines can raise blood glucose and reduce this insulin’s effect
  • Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia, particularly if meals are irregular or delayed

Quick Tips

  • Always gently resuspend the pen before injecting, as this insulin is a suspension, not a clear solution
  • Inject shortly before a meal and make sure the meal follows as planned
  • Always carry a fast-acting source of sugar in case of hypoglycemia
  • Rotate injection sites systematically to maintain consistent insulin absorption
