Overview

Novorapid FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen contains Insulin aspart 100U/ml and is available as a medicine. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for Novorapid FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Inject Novorapid FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen subcutaneously into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm shortly before a meal (typically 0-10 minutes before eating), rotating the injection site each time. Ensure you eat a meal shortly after injecting, as this insulin acts quickly and delaying or skipping a meal after injection increases the risk of hypoglycemia.

Dosage

The dose of Novorapid FlexPen 100U/ml Pre-filled Pen is individualised by your doctor based on your blood glucose readings, carbohydrate intake, activity level, and overall diabetes treatment plan, and is usually injected shortly before a meal. Never change your dose without your doctor’s specific instruction.

Storage Instructions

Before first use, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C); do not freeze, and do not use if it has been frozen. Once a pen/cartridge is in use (or carried as a spare), it may be kept at room temperature (below 30°C), away from direct heat and light, for up to 4 weeks; discard it after that period even if some insulin remains, and never share a pen between patients.

Side Effects

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • Weight gain
  • Injection site redness or swelling
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating or shakiness

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any ingredient in this product
  • During episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other glucose-lowering medicines, including basal insulin, increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined
  • Beta-blockers and certain other medicines can mask early warning symptoms of hypoglycemia
  • Corticosteroids and some hormonal medicines can raise blood glucose, sometimes requiring a dose adjustment
  • Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia, particularly if meals are irregular

Quick Tips

  • Inject shortly before eating and make sure your meal is ready, to avoid a mismatch between insulin action and food intake
  • Always carry a fast-acting source of sugar in case of hypoglycemia
  • Check your blood glucose as advised, especially before and after meals
  • Rotate injection sites systematically to maintain consistent insulin absorption
