Toujeo 300U/ml Pre-Filled Pen

Toujeo 300U/ml Pre-Filled Pen contains insulin glargine 300U/ml, a long-acting human insulin analogue used to control blood glucose in adults, adolescents, and children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus who require insulin for background (basal) glucose control. Toujeo is a more concentrated (U300) form of insulin glargine – it is NOT unit-for-unit interchangeable with U100 insulins (such as Lantus), has a smaller injection volume for the same number of units, and gives a more prolonged, flatter action profile; any switch between insulin concentrations must only be done under your doctor’s specific guidance.

Insulin glargine is designed to form fine precipitates under the skin after injection, from which it is released slowly and steadily into the bloodstream over roughly 24 hours. This gives a relatively flat, peakless action profile that mimics the body’s normal background insulin secretion, lowering blood glucose by promoting glucose uptake into muscle and fat and suppressing glucose release from the liver.

Insulin glargine binds to insulin receptors on muscle, fat, and liver cells, triggering glucose uptake from the blood and inhibiting hepatic glucose production and glycogen breakdown. Because it precipitates at the injection site and dissolves gradually, it provides a slow, sustained release rather than the sharp peak seen with regular insulin, making it suitable for once-daily basal (background) coverage.

Inject Toujeo 300U/ml Pre-Filled Pen subcutaneously into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating the injection site within the chosen area each time to reduce the risk of skin lump formation (lipodystrophy). Do not inject into a vein or muscle, and do not mix or dilute this insulin with any other insulin or solution in the same syringe, as this can change its action profile. Always check the insulin looks clear and colourless before injecting, and use a new needle for every injection.

The dose of Toujeo 300U/ml Pre-Filled Pen is entirely individualised by your doctor based on your blood glucose readings, HbA1c target, body weight, other diabetes medicines, and lifestyle, and is typically injected once daily at the same time each day. Never change your dose or switch between different insulin products or concentrations without your doctor’s specific instruction, as this can cause dangerous swings in blood glucose.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Before first use, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C); do not freeze, and do not use if it has been frozen. Once a pen/cartridge is in use (or carried as a spare), it may be kept at room temperature (below 30°C), away from direct heat and light, for up to 4 weeks; discard it after that period even if some insulin remains, and never share a pen between patients.

• Known hypersensitivity to insulin glargine or any ingredient in this product
• During episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

• Other glucose-lowering medicines (oral antidiabetics, other insulins) increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined
• Beta-blockers, clonidine, and some other medicines can mask the early warning symptoms of hypoglycemia (such as tremor and palpitations)
• Corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, and certain diuretics can raise blood glucose and reduce this insulin’s effect, sometimes requiring a dose adjustment
• Alcohol can increase the risk and prolong the duration of hypoglycemia; inform your doctor of all medicines and supplements you are taking

• Always carry a fast-acting source of sugar (glucose tablets, sweets, or juice) in case of a hypoglycemic episode
• Check your blood glucose regularly as advised by your doctor, especially when starting, changing dose, or feeling unwell
• Rotate injection sites systematically to prevent skin lumps that can affect insulin absorption
• Never share your insulin pen or needle with another person, even if the needle is changed, due to infection risk
