Oxy 5 Acne Pimple Medication

OXY 5 Acne Pimple Medication is a topical gel formulated with Benzoyl Peroxide 5% w/w as its active ingredient, produced under the OXY brand by Rohto-Mentholatum (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. It also contains Methylparaben 0.15% w/w and Propylparaben 0.05% w/w, which function as preservatives in the gel base. OXY 5 is classed as a topical acne preparation and is sold in Malaysia as an OTC (Over-the-Counter) product, available directly from pharmacy and personal-care shelves without needing a doctor’s prescription.

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most widely used topical actives in acne skincare worldwide, and OXY 5 uses the 5% w/w concentration, which is generally the lower-strength option compared to the 10% w/w OXY 10 variant sold under the same brand for more stubborn cases. The lower concentration is often chosen by first-time users or those with more sensitive skin, since a lower percentage tends to be gentler while still being an active ingredient.

OXY 5 is sold in Malaysia in a 10g tube, with a 25g tube also available in the market under the same formulation. It is intended for external use on the skin only and comes as a smooth, easily-absorbed gel rather than a cream or lotion.

Cleanse the skin thoroughly and pat dry before application. Squeeze a small amount of gel and apply directly onto the affected spot or a thin, even layer over the wider problem area, avoiding the eyes, lips, and any broken or irritated skin. Allow the gel to absorb fully; there is no need to rinse it off after application.

Start with once-daily application if this is the first time using a benzoyl peroxide product, and only increase to twice daily if the skin tolerates it well. If a combination acne routine that includes other benzoyl-peroxide, retinoid, or exfoliating acid products is being used, space out applications and avoid layering multiple active ingredients on the same area at the same time, as this raises the risk of dryness and irritation.

OXY 5 is a topical medication, not an oral medicine, so dosage is expressed as frequency of application rather than a swallowed dose. It is typically applied once or twice daily depending on individual skin tolerance; if dryness, peeling, or irritation develops, reduce the frequency to once daily or every other day until the skin adjusts.

There is no oral dose to miss with a topical product; simply resume the normal application schedule at the next planned time if an application is skipped. Do not apply extra gel or apply more frequently than recommended to compensate for a missed application.

See a doctor or pharmacist if the skin becomes severely red, swollen, blistered, or painful, if there is no change in the skin’s condition after several weeks of consistent use, or if signs of an allergic reaction develop.

Use OXY 5 before the expiry date printed on the tube and outer packaging. Discard the tube if the gel separates, changes colour noticeably, or develops an unusual odour, even if the printed expiry date has not yet passed.
