How Desogestrel Works

Desogestrel acts by selectively binding to the progesterone receptor and decreases androgenic activity. This produces a transcription factor-effect, resulting in modifications in the mRNA synthesis

Side Effects of Desogestrel

Nausea, Vomiting, Headache, Dizziness, Menstrual irregularities, Breast discomfort, Gynaecomastia, Depression, Edema, Changes in libido

Desogestrel Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction of Desogestrel with alcohol.

Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk

Desogestrel is contraindicated in pregnancy. Animal and human studies have revealed positive fetal risk with the use of Desogestrel. Desogestrel should be immediately stopped if pregnancy occurs. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Desogestrel is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Some quantity of Desogestrel may be excreted in breast milk hence it may change the quality and composition of the breast milk.

Driving Generally Safe

Desogestrel usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Desogestrel should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease as the drug is excreted through urine. Dose adjustment of Desogestrel may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Use With Care

Desogestrel should be used with caution in patients with liver disease as it may interfere with the liver enzymes. Dose adjustment of Desogestrel may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
