The dressing is built on a polyurethane film that is permeable to water vapour and oxygen but impermeable to liquid water and bacteria, which allows the surface to remain breathable while forming a waterproof, protective barrier once applied. The acrylate adhesive coating creates a flexible bond around the border of the film, allowing the dressing to move with the skin during normal activity. Because the film is transparent, the area underneath stays visible without needing to lift or remove the dressing to check on it.

Clean and dry the surrounding skin thoroughly before application, as the adhesive bonds best to a dry surface. Remove the backing without touching the adhesive underside, position the dressing so it fully covers the intended area with a margin of clear skin around the edge, and smooth it down from the centre outward without stretching the film to avoid trapping air bubbles or wrinkles.

Leave the dressing in place for up to around 7 days per manufacturer guidance, or change it sooner if it lifts, leaks, or becomes visibly soiled. To remove, lift one corner and gently stretch the film sideways, parallel to the skin, rather than pulling it straight upward.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Speak to a doctor or pharmacist if the area underneath becomes increasingly painful, swollen, or has an unusual odour, if fluid builds up noticeably under the film, or if fever develops.
