Overview

Actos 30mg Tablet contains pioglitazone 30mg, a thiazolidinedione (TZD) antidiabetic medicine used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, usually alongside diet and exercise and sometimes combined with other antidiabetic medicines.

Pioglitazone works by activating PPAR-gamma receptors mainly in fat and muscle tissue, which improves the body’s sensitivity to its own insulin. This allows cells to take up glucose from the blood more effectively, lowering blood sugar levels without directly stimulating insulin release from the pancreas.

How it Works

Pioglitazone activates the PPAR-gamma nuclear receptor, altering the transcription of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. This reduces insulin resistance in peripheral tissues and the liver, improving glucose uptake and lowering circulating blood glucose over several weeks of regular use.

Directions for Use

Take Actos 30mg Tablet once daily at about the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Continue taking it even if you feel well, since blood sugar control needs to be maintained continuously, and do not change your dose without your doctor’s advice.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Actos 30mg Tablet is 15-30mg once daily, which your doctor may increase up to a maximum of 45mg daily depending on your blood sugar response. Pioglitazone is often used together with other antidiabetic medicines, and your doctor will individualise your dose and monitoring schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Actos 30mg Tablet used for?

Actos 30mg Tablet is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes, usually alongside a healthy diet, exercise, and sometimes other diabetes medicines.

How is pioglitazone different from other diabetes medicines?

Unlike some diabetes medicines, pioglitazone works by improving how your body responds to its own insulin rather than by directly increasing insulin release, so it does not typically cause low blood sugar on its own.

Can I stop taking this medicine once my blood sugar improves?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. Type 2 diabetes is a long-term condition, and stopping treatment can cause blood sugar to rise again even if you feel well.

What monitoring will I need while taking this medicine?

Your doctor will periodically check for signs of fluid retention or heart failure, monitor your liver function, and may ask about any changes in urination, since these help detect rare but serious side effects early.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Actos 30mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
