Each swab measures 7.5cm by 7.5cm, a common general-purpose size used across home first-aid, clinic, and hospital settings, and packs are commonly supplied as 100 pieces per box, with bulk options available for institutional use.

The gauze contains no chemical additives or active pharmaceutical ingredients — it is a plain, unmedicated dressing material rather than a treated antiseptic dressing. It is sold as a general medical consumable in Malaysia, is available without a prescription, and its lint-free cotton weave is the main feature that distinguishes it from ordinary cotton wool, since the woven structure sheds far fewer loose fibres onto a wound surface.

The swab is constructed from several folded layers of woven 100% cotton gauze. The open weave structure of cotton gauze creates a network of small gaps between the threads, and these gaps draw in and hold fluid through capillary action, allowing the material to absorb blood, exudate, or cleaning solution as it is pressed or wiped against a surface. Folding the gauze into multiple layers increases the total absorbent surface area within a compact square.

Because the cotton fibres are tightly woven rather than loose, the gauze sheds minimal lint compared with cotton wool, which is why this construction is preferred where fibres left behind on a wound or surgical site are undesirable. As a plain cotton material, the gauze itself has no chemical or antiseptic action — any cleansing or antiseptic effect must come from a solution applied to it separately.

Open the individual or bulk pack carefully, and where the pack is bulk-supplied, avoid touching pieces you do not intend to use immediately, since bulk packs are not individually sealed once opened. If an antiseptic solution or wound cleanser is required, apply it to the gauze first as directed, since the gauze alone does not contain any medicated ingredient.

Use the gauze to gently clean or dab the area as needed, using a fresh piece for each separate wipe rather than reusing the same piece across different areas. Fold or layer additional pieces as needed for extra absorbency on a larger area, and dispose of used gauze after each application — do not reuse a piece that has already contacted a wound or skin surface.
