Aloclair Gel

Aloclair Gel is an oral-cavity gel formulated with sodium hyaluronate, aloe vera, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), maltodextrin, and potassium sorbate as a preservative. Unlike the spray version, the gel format is designed for precise, localised application directly onto a single lesion using a clean fingertip or cotton bud, where it forms a bioadhesive film over the treated site. The formulation does not contain steroids, anaesthetics, or antiseptics.

Supplied in an 8ml tube, Aloclair Gel is manufactured by Alliance Pharmaceuticals and sold as an over-the-counter product across Europe and Asia, including Malaysia. Its gel consistency allows it to stay localised on a single ulcer or lesion for longer than a liquid spray, making it a useful alternative format to the spray version of the same product line for people who prefer targeted application.

Sodium hyaluronate and polyvinylpyrrolidone are bioadhesive polymers that, together with aloe vera, form a thin protective film once applied to the moist surface of the oral mucosa. Maltodextrin contributes to the gel’s texture and consistency, allowing it to be applied precisely and remain in place at the site of application rather than spreading across the mouth. Potassium sorbate is included as a preservative to maintain the product’s stability and microbial quality once the tube has been opened.

Wash hands before use. Squeeze a small amount of gel onto a clean fingertip or a cotton bud and apply it directly and precisely onto the affected lesion, avoiding excessive rubbing. Avoid eating or drinking immediately afterwards where possible, to allow the film to form. Replace the cap tightly on the tube after each use.

Adults, the elderly, and children may use Aloclair Gel as directed on the package insert, typically applying a small amount directly onto the affected lesion up to 4 times a day, or as advised by a doctor, dentist, or pharmacist. Use should not exceed the frequency stated on the packaging without professional guidance.

The shelf life of Aloclair Gel is stated on the tube and outer carton at the time of manufacture. Use the product before the expiry date printed on the packaging, and discard the tube a set number of weeks after first opening as stated in the package insert, even if some product remains.

Store Aloclair Gel below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly capped when not in use and keep it out of the reach of children.

• Common: mild, transient stinging sensation at the site of application immediately after use.
• Common: an unusual taste in the mouth for a short period after use.
• Serious: signs of an allergic reaction such as facial or lip swelling, widespread rash, or difficulty breathing, which require immediate medical attention.

• Known hypersensitivity or allergy to sodium hyaluronate, aloe vera, polyvinylpyrrolidone, maltodextrin, potassium sorbate, or any other ingredient of the gel.

• No clinically significant drug or food interactions are known for Aloclair Gel when used as directed in the oral cavity.

• Apply the gel directly to the lesion with a clean fingertip or cotton bud rather than spreading it broadly across the mouth.
• Avoid eating or drinking immediately after application if possible, to allow the film time to form.
• Wash hands before and after each application.
• Keep the tube opening clean and wipe it before replacing the cap.
• Note the date the tube was first opened, since it should be discarded a set period after opening even if not empty.
• Store the tube upright with the cap tightly closed between uses.

Precautions: Aloclair Gel is intended for use in the oral cavity only. Use in pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in young children should follow the guidance on the package insert or the advice of a doctor, dentist, or pharmacist, particularly regarding the minimum age and amount appropriate for the child’s size. Discontinue use if irritation, swelling, or a rash develops.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Speak with a doctor, dentist, or pharmacist if oral lesions do not show improvement after the period stated on the packaging, if they are unusually large, recurrent, or accompanied by fever, or if signs of an allergic reaction appear after use.
