Overview

Amtas-10 10mg Tablet contains amlodipine 10mg, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain types of chest pain (angina), including angina caused by coronary artery spasm.

Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by reducing the entry of calcium into vascular smooth muscle cells, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow to the heart muscle, easing chest pain.

How it Works

Amlodipine selectively blocks L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, with much weaker effects on the heart muscle itself. This reduces peripheral vascular resistance and dilates coronary arteries, lowering blood pressure and increasing oxygen supply to the heart without significantly slowing heart rate.

Directions for Use

Take Amtas-10 10mg Tablet once daily at about the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Amtas-10 10mg Tablet is 5mg once daily, which your doctor may increase up to a maximum of 10mg once daily depending on your blood pressure or angina response. Your doctor will individualise the dose based on your condition and response to treatment.

Shelf Life

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Simvastatin: amlodipine increases simvastatin blood levels, so the simvastatin dose may need to be capped by your doctor

  • Grapefruit juice may modestly increase amlodipine blood levels
  • Other blood pressure-lowering medicines may have an additive effect, increasing the risk of low blood pressure

Quick Tips

  • Check your ankles periodically for swelling and mention it to your doctor if it bothers you
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying down to reduce dizziness
  • Take it at the same time every day to build a routine
