Overview

Apo-Gabapentin 300mg Capsule contains gabapentin 300mg, an anticonvulsant medicine used to treat certain types of epilepsy (as an add-on treatment) and to relieve neuropathic pain (nerve pain), such as pain following shingles (postherpetic neuralgia) or diabetic nerve pain.

Gabapentin works by acting on the nervous system to reduce abnormal, overactive electrical and chemical signalling that causes seizures in epilepsy or persistent pain signals in nerve pain conditions.

How it Works

Gabapentin binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels on nerve cells, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate. This calms overactive nerve signalling, reducing seizure activity and dampening the abnormal pain signals seen in neuropathic pain.

Directions for Use

Take Apo-Gabapentin 300mg Capsule at evenly spaced intervals through the day as prescribed, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. If you also take an antacid, take it at least 2 hours before or after gabapentin, as antacids can reduce its absorption.

Dosage

Apo-Gabapentin 300mg Capsule is usually started at a low dose and increased gradually by your doctor over several days to weeks to reduce side effects such as drowsiness, until an effective dose for your condition is reached. The dose and schedule are individualised, so follow your doctor’s specific instructions.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.
