Overview

Ascentia Mucoway 600mg Tablet is an oral mucolytic tablet manufactured by Eldon Healthcare, available in Malaysia in strips of 10 tablets and in a box of 60 tablets (10s x 6 strips). Each tablet contains 600mg of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), also referred to as Acetylcysteine, as its active ingredient, formulated as a swallowable immediate-release tablet. This is an OTC (Over-the-Counter) product in Malaysia and can be purchased from community pharmacies and licensed online pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.

N-Acetylcysteine is a well-established mucolytic compound belonging to the thiol class of agents used in respiratory products across Malaysia and many other markets. Ascentia Mucoway is manufactured using an active ingredient imported from Germany and is formulated for a fast dissolution rate once swallowed. The tablet form is sized to be easy to swallow for adolescents and adults who are able to take solid oral dosage forms.

Ascentia Mucoway is distinct from mucolytic products built on other active ingredients such as carbocisteine or bromhexine, which belong to a related but chemically different class of agents; customers should always check the active ingredient printed on the pack before switching between brands. The product should be stored according to the instructions on its packaging and kept out of reach of children, and customers who are uncertain whether this product is appropriate for them should consult a pharmacist before purchase.

Directions for Use

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; adults may take it with or after a meal as stated on the product packaging.
  • Do not crush or chew the tablet unless the package insert specifically allows it; check the insert for the correct method of administration.
  • Do not take this product together with other medicines or health products containing N-Acetylcysteine, Acetylcysteine, Carbocisteine, or other mucolytic agents, to avoid duplicating the same type of active ingredient.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Dosage

The typical adult dose of Ascentia Mucoway 600mg Tablet is 1 to 2 tablets taken once daily with a meal, in line with the manufacturer’s guidance. For children between 6 and 12 years old, the manufacturer’s guidance is half a tablet taken twice daily with a meal; this product is not recommended for children under 6 years old. The daily dose should not exceed what is stated on the product packaging or advised by a pharmacist or doctor, and self-treatment should not continue for more than a few days without medical advice if symptoms do not improve. Customers who are uncertain about the correct dose for a child, an elderly person, or someone with an existing medical condition should check with a pharmacist before use.

Shelf Life

Use Ascentia Mucoway 600mg Tablet before the expiry date printed on the strip and outer carton. Once opened, use the remaining tablets within the timeframe stated on the packaging, and do not use any tablet past its printed expiry date.

Storage Instructions

Store Ascentia Mucoway 600mg Tablet at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep it in its original packaging until ready for use. Keep this product out of sight and reach of children, and do not store it in a bathroom or near a sink where humidity is high.
