Overview

Fluimucil A 100mg For Oral Solution contains acetylcysteine 100mg per sachet, supplied as granules for reconstitution into a drink. It is distributed in Malaysia by EP Plus Group Sdn Bhd under the Fluimucil brand, and is supplied as a box of 30 individual sachets.

This 100mg strength is formulated for children from around 2 years of age. It should not be confused with the higher-strength Fluimucil A 200mg granules, or with Fluimucil effervescent tablets (600mg), which are formulated for older children and adults — always check the strength printed on the pack matches the intended user.

As an OTC product, Fluimucil A 100mg is available in Malaysia and Singapore through registered community and online pharmacies without needing a doctor’s prescription, though checking with a pharmacist is worthwhile if you are unsure which strength or formulation is appropriate.

Directions for Use

  • Dissolve the contents of one sachet in about half a glass of water and stir well.
  • Drink the prepared solution immediately after mixing.
  • It can be taken before or after meals.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day while using this product.
  • Use a glass and a plastic or wooden spoon to prepare the solution, rather than metal containers or spoons.

Dosage

For children aged 2 years and above, the usual dose is one 100mg sachet, 2 to 3 times daily, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. This 100mg strength is not intended for adults or older children who need a higher dose — a 200mg strength or another Fluimucil formulation is available for that purpose. Do not exceed the frequency stated on the pack, and check with a doctor if there is no improvement after several days.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children. Once a sachet is dissolved, drink the prepared solution promptly rather than storing it for later.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Do not take this product at the same time as cough-suppressant medicines that reduce the cough reflex, as this can lead to a build-up of loosened mucus in the airway.
  • Acetylcysteine may reduce the absorption of certain oral antibiotics if taken at the same time; leave a gap of at least 2 hours between doses if also taking oral antibiotics, or check with a pharmacist.
  • No significant food interactions have been identified; it can be taken before or after meals.

Quick Tips

  • Prepare the solution fresh each time rather than in advance.
  • Keep up your child’s usual fluid intake through the day while using this product.
  • Use a glass or plastic container rather than metal when preparing the solution.
  • Keep sachets in their original box until ready to use.
  • Check the printed expiry date before each use.
  • Check with a pharmacist before combining this with other cough or cold products, to avoid duplicate active ingredients.
