Overview

Binafine Cream is a topical antifungal cream whose active ingredient is terbinafine hydrochloride, an allylamine antifungal. The cream is white and smooth, and is applied thinly to the skin surface. It is an external preparation that is sold over the counter.

Terbinafine acts on the fungal cell membrane by interfering with an enzyme (squalene epoxidase) involved in building ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell walls. Because the cream works at the skin surface and very little is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is unlikely to cause the systemic side effects seen with oral antifungal tablets. The cream base contains excipients that help it spread smoothly and stay on the skin.

Binafine Cream is available through DoctorOnCall for delivery in Malaysia and Singapore. Customers should read the leaflet and apply it only to skin as directed, washing their hands after use. Please speak to a pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, giving it to a child, or already using other creams on the same area.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Follow the directions on the pack or the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the skin area, including between the toes or skin folds, before applying.
  2. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and a little of the surrounding skin, then rub in gently.
  3. Wash your hands after each application, unless the hands are the area being treated.
  4. Keep the affected area dry and wear clean, breathable clothing or socks, changing them daily.

Do not apply to the eyes, mouth, inside of the nose or on open wounds. Do not cover with airtight dressings unless told to do so.

Dosage

Adults: Apply a thin layer once or twice daily, as stated on the leaflet. The length of application depends on the area, and is commonly one to two weeks for the usual skin sites, and continued for the period stated on the leaflet even if the skin appears to have cleared.

Children under 12 years: Not recommended unless advised by a doctor.

Missed application: Apply as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next application. Do not apply extra.

See a doctor if there is no improvement after the period on the leaflet, or if the skin worsens.

Storage Instructions

Store below the temperature stated on the pack, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and keep out of the reach of children. Do not freeze.
