Clamovid 156.25mg/5ml Granule Solution

Clamovid 156.25mg/5ml Granule Solution is a combination antibiotic containing amoxicillin 125mg and clavulanic acid 31.25mg (co-amoxiclav 156.25mg/5ml), used to treat a range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, otitis media, and bronchitis), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections caused by bacteria that would otherwise be resistant to amoxicillin alone.

Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin family of antibiotics and works by interfering with bacterial cell wall formation, while clavulanic acid blocks an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that many bacteria use to destroy amoxicillin before it can act, allowing the combination to remain effective against a broader range of bacteria than amoxicillin alone.

Amoxicillin binds to penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall, disrupting cell wall synthesis and causing susceptible bacteria to rupture and die. Many bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that breaks down amoxicillin before it can act; clavulanic acid irreversibly inhibits this enzyme, protecting amoxicillin and restoring its activity against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant.

If Clamovid 156.25mg/5ml Granule Solution has not already been reconstituted, ask your pharmacist to mix the granules with the specified amount of water. Shake the bottle well before every dose to ensure the medicine is evenly mixed, and measure the dose using the measuring spoon or oral syringe provided rather than a household spoon. Once reconstituted, keep the bottle in the refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard any unused suspension after 7 days. Giving the dose at the start of a meal can help reduce stomach upset.

The dose of Clamovid 156.25mg/5ml Granule Solution for children is calculated by your doctor or pharmacist based on body weight, and is usually given two to three times daily for a course of 5-10 days depending on the infection being treated. Always use the measuring device provided to give the exact prescribed dose, and complete the full course even if your child seems better beforehand.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or any penicillin/cephalosporin antibiotic
• Previous history of jaundice or liver problems caused by amoxicillin/clavulanic acid
• Infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever), as this combination can trigger a widespread skin rash in this condition
• Severe kidney impairment without dose adjustment supervised by a doctor

• Probenecid can reduce the excretion of amoxicillin, increasing its blood levels
• Allopurinol taken together with amoxicillin may increase the risk of skin rash
• Warfarin and other blood thinners may have an enhanced effect, requiring closer monitoring of clotting tests
• Methotrexate clearance may be reduced, increasing the risk of methotrexate toxicity

• Complete the full course of antibiotics even if your child feels better before finishing it
