Clavix 75mg Tablet

Clavix 75mg Tablet is a prescription oral medicine containing clopidogrel 75mg, an antiplatelet medicine. It is used in adults to reduce the risk of atherothrombotic events – such as heart attack, stroke, and vascular death – in patients with established cardiovascular disease, including those who have had a recent heart attack, stroke, or peripheral arterial disease, and in patients who have undergone certain cardiac procedures such as coronary stent placement.

Clopidogrel works differently from aspirin, and the two are often used together for a defined period after certain cardiac events or procedures, under close medical supervision, before treatment may be simplified to a single antiplatelet medicine. Because clopidogrel affects blood clotting, it requires careful management around any planned surgery, dental procedures, or if unexpected bleeding occurs, and should never be stopped abruptly without discussing this with the prescribing doctor, particularly in patients with a coronary stent.

Clopidogrel is a prodrug that is converted in the liver to an active metabolite, which irreversibly blocks the P2Y12 receptor on platelets. This prevents platelets from clumping together to form a clot, reducing the risk of blood clots forming in narrowed or damaged blood vessels, such as those affected by atherosclerosis or a coronary stent.

Clavix is taken orally, once daily, with or without food, at approximately the same time each day. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose, in which case the missed dose should be skipped – do not double the dose. Always inform any doctor, dentist, or surgeon that you are taking clopidogrel before any procedure, as it may need to be temporarily stopped under medical guidance.

The usual maintenance dose of clopidogrel is 75mg once daily. In certain situations, such as after acute coronary syndrome or stent placement, treatment may begin with a higher loading dose followed by the 75mg maintenance dose, as determined by the treating doctor. The duration of treatment, especially when combined with aspirin after a stent, is individualised based on the type of procedure and bleeding risk – patients should never stop or change this medicine without consulting their doctor.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to clopidogrel or any component of the formulation
• Active pathological bleeding, such as a peptic ulcer or intracranial haemorrhage
• Severe liver impairment

• Combining with aspirin, NSAIDs, or other blood thinners (such as warfarin) increases the risk of bleeding – this combination is only used when specifically directed by your doctor
• Certain proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole) may reduce the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel – your doctor may recommend an alternative acid-reducing medicine if needed
• Herbal supplements with blood-thinning properties, such as ginkgo biloba, may increase bleeding risk when combined with clopidogrel
• Inform your doctor of all medicines and supplements you are taking, especially before any new prescription or surgery

• Take your tablet at the same time each day to maintain a consistent antiplatelet effect
• Never stop this medicine suddenly, especially if you have a coronary stent, without discussing it with your cardiologist first
• Tell every healthcare provider, including your dentist, that you are taking clopidogrel before any procedure
• Seek medical attention for unusual bruising, prolonged bleeding, black or bloody stools, or blood in your urine
