Overview

Coldmax Suspension contains Paracetamol and is presented as an oral suspension. It is supplied in a pack size of 100ml.

It is classified as a non-prescription medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose accurately using the measuring cup, syringe, or spoon provided, rather than a household spoon. Give the suspension by mouth as directed on the product label according to the child’s age and weight, or as advised by a pharmacist or doctor, and doses should be spaced appropriately through the day rather than given too close together.

Dosage

Dosage is based on the child’s age and body weight and should follow the schedule printed on the product packaging or the instructions given by a pharmacist or doctor. The maximum recommended daily dose and minimum spacing between doses stated on the packaging must not be exceeded, and this product should not be given to infants below the age stated on the label without medical advice.

Shelf Life

Check the expiry date printed on the bottle or carton before use and do not use the product after this date. Once opened, the suspension should generally be used within the period stated on the label, and any remaining product should be discarded once expired or if it has changed in colour, smell, or consistency.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use, and store it out of the reach and sight of children. Do not freeze, and do not use if the suspension appears separated, discoloured, or has an unusual odour after shaking.

Side Effects

  • Generally well tolerated when used at the recommended dose
  • Rare allergic skin reactions such as rash or itching
  • Rare nausea or stomach discomfort
  • Rare blood disorders with long-term or excessive use
  • Liver problems with overdose or prolonged excessive use

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any other ingredient in the suspension
  • Severe liver disease
  • Use above the maximum recommended dose or alongside other paracetamol-containing products, which increases the risk of liver damage
  • Infants below the age stated on the packaging without medical advice

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Avoid giving alongside other medicines that also contain paracetamol, including other cold and flu products, to prevent accidental overdose
  • Caution with long-term use of certain anti-seizure or tuberculosis medicines, which may affect how paracetamol is processed by the body
  • No significant food interactions are established for paracetamol suspensions

Quick Tips

  • Shake the bottle well before every dose
  • Use the measuring device provided for accurate dosing according to the child’s age and weight
  • Check other medicines your child is taking to ensure they do not also contain paracetamol
  • Space doses appropriately and do not exceed the maximum daily dose
  • See a doctor if fever persists beyond 3 days, is very high, or is accompanied by rash, difficulty breathing, or unusual drowsiness
  • Keep out of reach of children at all times

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Paracetamol (active ingredient)
  • Standard pharmaceutical excipients typical of paediatric oral suspension formulations, including flavouring, sweetening, and preservative agents, as listed in full on the product packaging

Relevant Information

Fever in children is usually a sign that the body is fighting an infection and often settles on its own within a few days with supportive care such as this suspension, adequate fluids, and rest. However, very high fever, fever lasting more than 3 days, or fever accompanied by rash, breathing difficulty, seizures, or unusual lethargy should be assessed by a doctor promptly, and overdose of paracetamol is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention even if the child initially appears well.
