Overview

Covinace 8mg Tablet contains Perindopril 8mg, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The perindopril salt form used in Covinace follows its own dosing scale that is distinct from the perindopril arginine formulation used in some other perindopril-containing brands, so doses between different brands are not interchangeable milligram-for-milligram without your doctor’s guidance.

Perindopril works by blocking the enzyme that converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels and triggers sodium and water retention. By reducing angiotensin II formation, perindopril allows blood vessels to relax, lowering blood pressure and easing the heart’s workload.

How it Works

Perindopril inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), reducing the formation of angiotensin II and lowering aldosterone secretion. This relaxes and widens blood vessels and reduces sodium/water retention, lowering blood pressure. ACE inhibition also increases levels of bradykinin, a substance that contributes to the characteristic dry cough some patients experience with this drug class.

Directions for Use

Take Covinace 8mg Tablet once daily in the morning, before breakfast, as food may reduce its absorption. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as blood pressure control needs to be continuous.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Covinace 8mg Tablet is taken once daily in the morning, and your doctor may adjust it gradually based on your blood pressure response, up to the maximum dose considered appropriate for you. Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed, and do not adjust the dose yourself.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Covinace 8mg Tablet used for?

Covinace 8mg Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Your doctor will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

Why do I have a dry cough since starting this medicine?

A persistent dry cough is a well-recognised side effect of ACE inhibitors like perindopril, caused by a build-up of a substance called bradykinin. Tell your doctor if the cough is bothersome, as an alternative medicine may be considered.

Is Covinace the same as Coversyl?

Both contain perindopril, but Covinace uses a different perindopril salt form with its own dosing scale than the perindopril arginine used in Coversyl – the doses are not directly interchangeable, so always follow the specific dose prescribed for the brand you are given.

Can I stop taking this medicine if my blood pressure normalises?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and stopping suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise again.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Covinace 8mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
