Deltacarbon 250mg Tablet

Deltacarbon 250mg Tablet is an activated charcoal tablet sold as an OTC (Over-the-Counter) product, available without a doctor’s prescription. Each tablet contains 250mg of Activated Charcoal, also known as medicinal charcoal or activated carbon.

Activated charcoal is a fine, porous carbon material processed to have a very large internal surface area, which allows it to bind to a wide range of substances within the digestive tract. Deltacarbon is formulated as a plain, swallowable tablet rather than a powder or liquid suspension.

It is supplied in a strip of 10 tablets and is a long-standing, widely recognised product in Malaysian and Singaporean pharmacies, available through DoctorOnCall in both markets.

Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water; do not crush or chew it. It may be taken before or after meals, as directed by a pharmacist or doctor, or as stated on the pack insert.

Adults may generally take 1-2 tablets, up to three times daily, or as recommended by a pharmacist or doctor. If taking other oral medicines, separate them from Deltacarbon by at least 2 hours. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose stated on the pack insert.

Use before the expiry date printed on the strip and outer carton.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

• Common: Black or dark-coloured stools — an expected, harmless effect of the charcoal itself.
• Common: Mild constipation.
• Common: Temporary changes in bowel habits.
• Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling of the mouth or eyes, difficulty breathing) or symptoms of bowel obstruction (severe abdominal pain, no bowel movements, persistent vomiting), which require prompt medical attention.

• Known allergy or hypersensitivity to activated charcoal or any listed ingredient.
• Diagnosed or suspected bowel obstruction or bowel perforation.
• Recent bowel surgery, without a doctor’s specific advice.

• Activated charcoal can bind to and reduce the absorption of many oral medicines if taken at the same time; separate Deltacarbon from other oral medicines by at least 2 hours.
• This includes common medicines such as oral contraceptives and other regularly scheduled tablets — check with a pharmacist if you take any medicine on a fixed daily schedule.
• No specific food restrictions are established, though the tablet is commonly taken before or after meals as directed.

• Take with a full glass of water to help the tablet move through the digestive tract.
• Keep at least a 2-hour gap between Deltacarbon and any other oral medicine.
• Do not be alarmed by black or dark stools — this is expected with activated charcoal.
• Keep the strip in its original packaging until use, to protect the tablets from moisture.
• Note the time of your last dose if you are taking it multiple times a day, to avoid exceeding the daily maximum.
• Check the expiry date before use.

Precautions: Always separate Deltacarbon from other oral medicines by at least 2 hours, including regular prescription medicines and oral contraceptives. Anyone with a history of bowel obstruction, bowel perforation, or recent bowel surgery should check with a doctor before use.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Speak with a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms do not improve after a few days, if you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or an inability to pass stools or gas, or if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction.
