Overview

Dermoplex Antiseptic Cream is a cream with Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Cetrimide and Cream Base (non-greasy) declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 25g.

This is an over-the-counter (OTC) product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Clean the wound gently with clean water and pat the area dry with a clean cloth or gauze. Apply a thin layer of Dermoplex Antiseptic Cream directly to the affected area, and cover with a clean dressing if needed to protect it from dirt and friction. Wash hands before and after application. For sensitive skin, a small patch test on unaffected skin is advisable before wider use.

Dosage

Not applicable as an oral/systemic dose — Dermoplex Antiseptic Cream is for external, topical use only. As a general guide, apply a thin layer to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day, or as needed; do not exceed the frequency stated on the packaging without pharmacist advice.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the tube or carton. As with most OTC antiseptic creams, an opened tube is generally best used within about 6 to 12 months of first opening, but always follow the specific expiry and period-after-opening information on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tube tightly capped after use, and keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: mild, temporary stinging or burning sensation on application, especially on broken skin.
  • Common: slight redness or dryness at the application site.
  • Serious: signs of an allergic reaction to chlorhexidine or cetrimide, such as spreading rash, itching, swelling, or blistering — stop use and seek medical advice.
  • Serious: worsening wound infection (increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or fever) requiring prompt medical assessment.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, cetrimide, or any other ingredient in this cream.
  • Do not use on deep puncture wounds, animal or human bites, or wounds already showing signs of infection — seek medical care instead.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes, ears (middle ear), and other mucous membranes.
  • Discontinue use if a rash, worsening irritation, or signs of infection develop.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • No clinically significant drug or food interactions are expected for this topical antiseptic cream when used as directed on minor superficial wounds, since it is not intended to be swallowed and is not expected to be significantly absorbed into the bloodstream.
  • Avoid combining with other antiseptic or wound-care products on the same area at the same time unless advised by a pharmacist, as mixing certain antiseptics can reduce effectiveness or increase irritation.

Quick Tips

  • Apply to clean, dry skin.
  • Apply only a thin layer.
  • Cover the application site with a clean dressing if it is likely to get dirty or rub against clothing.
  • Do a patch test on a small area first if you have sensitive skin or a history of allergies.
  • Keep the tube tightly capped in a cool, dry place, away from children.
  • Check with a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure whether this product is suitable for your situation.

Relevant Information

Precautions: For external use only, on small areas of skin. Avoid applying to deep puncture wounds, animal or human bites, or areas already showing signs of infection, and avoid the eyes and mucous membranes. Pregnant or breastfeeding women and parents of very young children should check with a pharmacist or doctor before use if unsure.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: See a doctor or pharmacist promptly if the affected area is deep, large, caused by a bite, does not stop bleeding, shows signs of infection (increasing redness, swelling, warmth, pus, or fever), or does not improve within a few days of self-care.
