Overview

Dicetel 100mg Tablet contains pinaverium bromide 100mg, a gut-selective calcium channel blocker used to relieve abdominal pain, cramping, and bowel disturbances associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional gastrointestinal spasm disorders.

Pinaverium acts directly on the smooth muscle of the intestinal wall, reducing excessive muscle contractions (spasm) that cause cramping pain, without significantly affecting muscle activity elsewhere in the body.

How it Works

Pinaverium selectively blocks calcium channels on intestinal smooth muscle cells, reducing the influx of calcium needed for muscle contraction. This relaxes the overactive gut muscle responsible for spasm and cramping, while its very low systemic absorption limits effects outside the gastrointestinal tract.

Directions for Use

Swallow Dicetel 100mg Tablet whole with a full glass of water or other liquid during a meal – do not chew or crush the tablet. Avoid taking this medicine while lying down or just before going to bed, as it may cause local irritation if it does not pass quickly into the stomach.

Dosage

The usual dose of Dicetel 100mg Tablet is one tablet two to three times daily, taken with meals. Your doctor will adjust the dose and duration of treatment based on the severity of your symptoms and your response to treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dicetel 100mg Tablet used for?

Dicetel 100mg Tablet is used to relieve the abdominal pain, cramping, and bowel spasm associated with irritable bowel syndrome and other functional digestive disorders.

How quickly does pinaverium relieve cramping?

Some people notice relief within a few days, but it may take a couple of weeks of regular use to see the full benefit in reducing IBS-related cramping and discomfort.

Why should I take Dicetel 100mg Tablet with a meal and not before bed?

Taking it with food and enough water helps the tablet pass quickly into the stomach; taking it while lying down or on an empty stomach increases the chance of local irritation as it passes down the oesophagus.

Can I take Dicetel 100mg Tablet long-term for IBS?

Your doctor will decide the appropriate duration based on your symptoms – some people need it only during flare-ups, while others use it for a longer maintenance period under medical review.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Dicetel 100mg Tablet?

Take the next dose with your next meal as usual – do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
