Overview

Duopharma Beazyme 150000u Tablet is an oral tablet containing papain 150,000 USP Unit as its active ingredient. Papain is a proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme derived from the Carica papaya (papaya) plant, and this product is manufactured by Duopharma, a Malaysian pharmaceutical company. It belongs to the enzyme-supplement class of oral tablets.

Beazyme is sold in Malaysia as an over-the-counter (OTC) product, available without a doctor’s prescription. It is typically supplied in strips of 10 tablets, with boxes commonly containing multiple strips, and is one of several papain-based tablet brands available in the Malaysian market.

As a plant-derived enzyme product, Beazyme differs from animal-derived digestive enzyme products such as pancreatin-based tablets, and also differs from unrelated proteolytic enzyme brands based on serratiopeptidase — these are different active ingredients marketed under different brand names, and should not be confused with one another when comparing products.

Directions for Use

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
  • Take before or during meals, as directed on the label or by your pharmacist.
  • Do not chew or crush the tablet, as this may affect how the enzyme is released and absorbed.
  • Take at a consistent time relative to meals each day for a predictable routine.

Dosage

The typical adult dose is one tablet taken one to three times daily, before or with meals, or as otherwise directed by a doctor or pharmacist. If a dose is missed, take it at the next meal as scheduled rather than doubling up at a later dose. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen despite regular use, rather than increasing the dose on your own.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep tablets in their original blister strip until ready to take, and keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Skin irritation (when used topically)
  • Allergic reactions such as rash or itching
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (e.g., nausea, diarrhea)
  • Sore throat (with prolonged use)

Contraindications

  • Known allergy to papain, papaya, or latex, as cross-reactivity between papaya and latex allergens has been documented.
  • Active peptic ulcer disease, unless a doctor has specifically advised otherwise.
  • Known bleeding disorders, as papain may have a mild effect on clotting in some individuals.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, such as warfarin or aspirin, should be used cautiously alongside papain-containing products, as there may be an additive effect on bleeding tendency.
  • Papain products are generally taken with or before meals as part of their intended use pattern, so no specific food avoidance is required beyond following the label directions.
  • Discuss use with a pharmacist if you are taking any other enzyme supplements to avoid unnecessary duplication.

Quick Tips

  • Take the tablet at a consistent time relative to meals each day.
  • Swallow whole with water rather than chewing.
  • Check with a pharmacist if you have a known papaya or latex allergy before starting this product.
  • Keep tablets in the blister strip until ready to use to protect them from moisture.
  • Tell your doctor you are taking this product if you are also on blood-thinning medicine.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Papain: 150,000 USP Unit per tablet, the active ingredient, a proteolytic enzyme derived from the papaya (Carica papaya) plant.
  • Formulated as an oral tablet, supplied in blister strips.
