Overview

Dyna Kaolin Pectin Suspension is an oral liquid product from the Malaysian Dyna range, formulated as a suspension combining kaolin, a fine natural adsorbent clay, with pectin, a soluble plant fibre. It comes as a ready-to-use liquid that is shaken before each dose and measured out with a spoon or the cap provided, and is sold in Malaysian pharmacies as an over-the-counter (OTC) item, meaning it can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription. It belongs to a long-established category of kaolin-pectin combination liquids that has been sold in Malaysia for several decades under different brand names.

The suspension is commonly available in a 120ml bottle and is intended for adults and children aged 7 years and above, with a separate, lower dose printed for the 7-12 years age band. It is one of several kaolin-pectin combination products registered with Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), and its formulation, dosing, and precise ingredient concentrations are set out on the printed pack insert supplied with every bottle. Bottle sizes can vary slightly by outlet, so it is worth checking the pack size printed on the carton at the time of purchase.

Directions for Use

  • Shake the bottle well before each use to evenly mix the suspension.
  • Measure the dose using the cap or a proper oral measuring spoon rather than an ordinary kitchen spoon.
  • Take the measured dose by mouth, with or without food.
  • Re-cap the bottle tightly and store upright after each use.
  • Do not exceed the number of doses printed on the label within a 24-hour period.

Dosage

The printed pack dosing is: Adults, 2 tablespoonfuls per dose; Children 7 to 12 years, 1 tablespoonful per dose; both taken 3 to 4 times daily, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. This product is not labelled for children under 7 years of age — a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted for younger children. If symptoms do not improve within 48 hours, or if they worsen, stop use and seek medical advice.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the bottle and outer carton. Once opened, follow any in-use period stated on the pack insert; if none is stated, use within the timeframe recommended by the pharmacist and discard any unused suspension after the printed expiry date.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Kaolin can bind to and reduce the absorption of other oral medicines taken at the same time, potentially lowering their effectiveness; leave a gap of at least 2 hours between this product and other oral medications.
  • Space this product apart from other antidiarrhoeal or antacid products to avoid compounding effects on bowel movement.
  • No clinically significant food interactions are documented; it may be taken with or without food.

  • Use the measuring cap provided rather than an ordinary spoon for an accurate dose.
