Overview

Electral Forte 6g Granule is an oral rehydration salt (ORS) sachet product manufactured by FDC Limited (India) and registered in Malaysia through the local license holder Unimed Sdn Bhd. Each sachet contains a formulated blend of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, and Dextrose Monohydrate.

Electral Forte Granules is registered with Malaysia’s Drug Control Authority as an over-the-counter (OTC) product that does not require a prescription, and is sold in Malaysia in packs of 20 sachets of 6g each without requiring a doctor’s order. It follows the same general electrolyte-replacement approach as other ORS products on the Malaysian market, though the exact salt and sugar blend can differ slightly between brands.

Electral Forte is supplied as a single-serve powder sachet intended to be mixed with a set volume of water immediately before drinking, rather than as a ready-to-drink liquid. It is sold in Malaysia in a 20-sachet carton.

Directions for Use

  • Tear open the sachet and empty the entire contents into a clean glass or cup.
  • Add approximately 200 ml of clean, previously boiled or otherwise safe drinking water.
  • Stir well until the granules are completely dissolved.
  • Sip the solution slowly rather than drinking it quickly, particularly after each episode of diarrhoea or significant fluid loss.
  • Prepare a fresh sachet for each dose rather than storing the mixed solution for later use.

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: dissolve the contents of one 6g sachet in approximately 200 ml of water and sip slowly, repeating after each loose stool or significant episode of fluid loss, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. This product is intended for use when rehydration is needed — such as during diarrhoea, vomiting, or heavy sweating — rather than as a routine daily drink.

Dosing in infants and young children should be guided by a doctor or pharmacist, as the appropriate volume depends on the child’s age, weight, and degree of fluid loss rather than a single fixed amount. If symptoms of dehydration continue or worsen despite regular use, or if there is no improvement within 24-48 hours, stop self-treating and seek medical advice.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild nausea, especially if the solution is drunk quickly.
  • Common: Bloating, gas, or mild stomach discomfort after drinking a full sachet.
  • Serious: Persistent vomiting that prevents the solution from being retained, which can worsen dehydration and needs medical assessment.
  • Serious: Swelling, reduced urination, or confusion, which may indicate an electrolyte imbalance and require urgent medical review, particularly in people with kidney or heart disease.

Contraindications

  • Do not use in cases of severe, uncontrolled vomiting where the solution cannot be kept down — seek medical care, as intravenous fluid replacement may be needed instead.
  • Avoid use in people with intestinal obstruction or a non-functioning bowel (paralytic ileus).
  • Use with caution and under medical supervision in people with impaired kidney function, as electrolyte levels need closer monitoring.
  • Avoid use if you have a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the sachet.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • This product should not be taken together with other oral electrolyte or rehydration products at the same time without medical advice, to avoid excessive sodium or potassium intake.
  • People taking potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or other medicines that raise blood potassium should check with a doctor or pharmacist before regular use, since the potassium chloride in this product may add to that effect.
  • No specific food interactions are known, though the dextrose (sugar) content should be considered by people closely monitoring their blood glucose or carbohydrate intake.

Quick Tips

  • Always mix the full sachet with the stated water volume — do not make the solution stronger than directed.
  • Sip small amounts frequently rather than drinking a large volume in one go, especially if there is ongoing nausea.
  • Continue normal food intake (or breast milk/formula for infants) alongside rehydration solution rather than withholding food.
  • Prepare a new sachet for each dosing session rather than keeping mixed solution for more than a few hours.
  • Keep a few sachets in your travel bag, especially when visiting areas with a higher risk of travellers’ diarrhoea.
  • Keep track of how many loose stools or vomiting episodes occur so you can describe this clearly if you need to see a doctor.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

Each sachet contains Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, and Dextrose Monohydrate — carefully balanced to restore essential electrolytes and fluids in your body.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Use with care in infants, elderly people, and those with kidney or heart conditions, who should be monitored more closely for fluid or electrolyte imbalance. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before using in pregnancy or while breastfeeding if symptoms are severe or prolonged.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical attention if diarrhoea or vomiting continues for more than 24-48 hours, if there is blood in the stool, high fever, persistent vomiting, or signs of severe dehydration (sunken eyes, very dry mouth, little or no urination, lethargy), or if an infant, elderly person, or someone with a chronic illness is affected.
