Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet

Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet contains apixaban 2.5mg, a direct factor Xa inhibitor anticoagulant (a type of blood-thinning medicine, also called a DOAC – direct oral anticoagulant). It is used to reduce the risk of stroke in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, and for the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism (blood clots in the veins), including as an extended-prevention dose in eligible patients after initial treatment.

Apixaban works by directly blocking factor Xa, a key protein in the blood clotting cascade. By inhibiting factor Xa, it reduces the formation of thrombin and fibrin, which lowers the blood’s tendency to form clots that could otherwise travel to the brain (causing stroke) or block veins and lungs.

Apixaban selectively and reversibly binds to and inhibits factor Xa, both free and within the clotting complex, without requiring a cofactor such as antithrombin. This reduces thrombin generation and clot formation, lowering the risk of stroke and venous blood clots. Your doctor determines the correct dose – including whether the reduced or twice-daily 2.5mg dose is appropriate – based on factors such as your age, weight, and kidney function.

Take Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet at about the same times each day, with or without food, swallowing the tablet whole with water. If you have difficulty swallowing, ask your doctor or pharmacist about alternative administration methods rather than crushing the tablet yourself. Do not stop or skip doses without your doctor’s guidance, as this affects your protection against clots.

Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet is usually taken twice daily. Depending on your condition, age, body weight, and kidney function, your doctor may prescribe a reduced dose or an extended-prevention dose following initial VTE treatment. Only your doctor can determine the correct dose and duration for your situation, so always take exactly as prescribed.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to apixaban or any ingredient in this product
• Active clinically significant bleeding
• Liver disease associated with an increased bleeding risk
• Conditions with a significant risk of major bleeding, such as active or recent gastrointestinal ulceration

• Aspirin, NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen), and other anticoagulants or antiplatelet medicines increase the risk of bleeding when combined with apixaban
• Strong CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, ritonavir) can significantly increase apixaban levels
• Strong CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein inducers (e.g. rifampicin, carbamazepine, St John’s Wort) can reduce apixaban’s effectiveness
• Herbal supplements with blood-thinning properties (e.g. ginkgo, fish oil at high doses) may add to bleeding risk

• Never stop or skip doses without your doctor’s guidance – abrupt discontinuation increases the risk of clotting
• Watch for and report unusual bruising, bleeding gums, or blood in your urine or stool
• Tell every doctor, dentist, or pharmacist that you are taking this medicine before any procedure
• Avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDs for pain relief unless your doctor has specifically approved it
• Carry a note or card stating you are on anticoagulant therapy in case of an emergency
• Keep this medicine and all follow-up appointments consistent, as missed doses reduce your protection
