Fortrans Powder For Oral Solution is an osmotic bowel-cleansing preparation. Each sachet contains macrogol 4000 together with the electrolytes sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and anhydrous sodium sulfate, and is dissolved in water to produce a large-volume oral solution. It is supplied as a box of 4 sachets, distributed in Malaysia by EP Plus, with each sachet intended to be dissolved in 1 litre of water.

This product is a different category from everyday laxative powders for occasional constipation, such as Forlax: it is formulated to rapidly and completely empty the bowel ahead of a colonoscopy, another endoscopic or radiological investigation, or colonic surgery, rather than for routine, ongoing self-care. Because a large fluid volume is involved, it is intended for a single, time-limited episode of use, on the schedule set by the doctor or facility carrying out the procedure.

Fortrans is sold in Malaysia through registered community and online pharmacies as an OTC product. Even though it can be purchased without uploading a doctor’s prescription, it should only be used exactly as instructed by the doctor or facility involved in your procedure — including the timing, split, and total volume to drink — rather than on a generic schedule, and any questions about your specific preparation instructions should be directed to that doctor or facility, or to a pharmacist.

• Dissolve the contents of one sachet completely in 1 litre of water and stir until fully dissolved.
• Drink the prepared solution over the time period advised by your doctor or the facility performing your procedure, typically around 1 hour per litre.
• Repeat with further sachets to reach the total volume instructed (commonly all 4 sachets, making 4 litres in total), split over the evening before and/or the morning of the procedure according to your doctor’s schedule.
• Only mix the powder with water; do not add other flavourings, medicines, or substances to the prepared solution.
• Follow the specific timing given to you by your doctor or the procedure facility rather than a generic schedule, since this depends on your appointment time and the type of procedure.
