Overview

Fucidin 250mg Tablet is a prescription-only medicine (POM) presented as a tablet, with Fusidic acid 250mg as its active ingredient content.

This page is limited to product, safety and handling information, in line with Malaysian rules on prescription medicine information for the public. Your prescriber or pharmacist is the right source for anything beyond that, together with the leaflet inside the pack.

Through DoctorOnCall, this product is supplied after an online consultation with a licensed doctor and a valid prescription, and it is checked by a registered pharmacist before dispensing. Take it exactly as prescribed, and speak to your doctor before stopping, changing the dose, or starting any other medicine alongside it.

Directions for Use

Take Fucidin 250mg Tablet with or after food to reduce the chance of stomach upset, swallowing the tablet whole with a glass of water. Take your doses at evenly spaced intervals through the day as instructed by your doctor, and complete the entire course, since stopping early can allow the infection to return and encourages antibiotic resistance.

Dosage

The usual adult dose of Fucidin 250mg Tablet is 500mg (two tablets) taken two to three times daily, with the exact dose, frequency, and duration determined by your doctor based on the type and severity of the infection being treated. Complete the full course as prescribed, even if your symptoms improve before you finish it.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Diarrhoea
  • Skin rash or irritation (especially with topical use)
  • Temporary liver enzyme changes
  • Headache

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or any ingredient in this product
  • Severe liver impairment
  • Should not be used alone for serious or deep-seated infections, as resistance can develop quickly – your doctor may prescribe it together with another antibiotic

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Statins (cholesterol-lowering medicines) should generally not be combined with fusidic acid, as this combination has been linked to a serious risk of muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • HIV protease inhibitors may interact with fusidic acid, altering blood levels of either medicine
  • Other medicines that can affect the liver may increase the risk of liver-related side effects when combined with fusidic acid
  • Taking this medicine with food can reduce the chance of stomach upset

Quick Tips

  • Complete the full course of antibiotics, even if you feel better after a few days
  • Take with food if it upsets your stomach
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking a statin, as this combination is usually avoided
  • Watch for yellowing of the skin/eyes or dark urine and report these to your doctor promptly
  • Do not share this antibiotic with anyone else or use leftover tablets for a different infection
  • Ask your doctor before combining with any new medicine, as fusidic acid has some important interactions
