Overview

Gaviscon Advance Liquid Sachets contains materials and components and is presented as a sachet product. It is supplied in a pack size of 10ml, Pack Size: 24s.

It is classified as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Take Gaviscon Advance Liquid Sachets after meals and before bedtime, as this is when reflux symptoms are most likely to occur. Tear open the sachet along the marked edge and swallow the entire contents directly; there is no need to take it with water, mix it, or dilute it, although a small sip of water afterwards is not harmful.

Do not take this product at the same time as other antacid, alginate, or reflux medicines unless advised by a pharmacist or doctor, as combining products with the same or overlapping active ingredients can lead to excess intake of sodium, potassium, or calcium. If you are taking other oral medicines, leave a gap of at least 2 hours before or after taking Gaviscon Advance (see Drug/Food Interactions).

Dosage

The typical adult and adolescent (12 years and above) dose is 1 to 2 sachets (10ml to 20ml), taken after meals and again at bedtime. This may be repeated up to four times in 24 hours, depending on symptoms. Each sachet is a single pre-measured dose and can be taken directly without needing to dilute it with water.

If a dose is missed, simply take the next dose when needed for symptoms — Gaviscon Advance is normally used as required rather than on a strict fixed schedule, so there is no need to double up. If heartburn or reflux symptoms do not improve after 7 days of regular use, or if they return frequently, stop self-treating and consult a doctor or pharmacist, as this may indicate a condition that needs further assessment. Use in children under 12 years should only be under medical advice.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the packaging. As each sachet is intended for single use, use the entire contents at the time of opening and discard the empty sachet; do not store a partially used sachet for later use.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the sachets in their original carton until ready to use, and keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use if a sachet is damaged, punctured, or leaking.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild bloating or a feeling of fullness after use.
  • Common: Occasional flatulence (trapped wind).
  • Common: Mild nausea or a change in bowel habit, such as diarrhoea, particularly with frequent use.
  • Serious: Rare allergic reactions, including skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing (which may indicate anaphylaxis or bronchospasm) — stop use and seek immediate medical attention if this occurs.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity (allergy) to sodium alginate, potassium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate, or any other ingredient in the formulation, including the preservatives methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216).
  • Not recommended without medical advice in patients with severely impaired chronic health condition or those on a potassium-restricted diet, due to the potassium bicarbonate content.
  • Use with caution in patients with hypercalcaemia (high blood calcium) or a history of chronic mineral-related conditions, due to the calcium carbonate content.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Gaviscon Advance can reduce the absorption of other medicines taken by mouth if they are taken too close together, because the alginate raft and its calcium/potassium content can interfere with how other drugs are absorbed in the stomach.
  • This effect has been specifically noted with medicines such as tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, iron supplements, thyroid hormone replacement (e.g. levothyroxine), digoxin, chloroquine, and bisphosphonates.
  • As a general precaution, leave a gap of at least 2 hours between taking Gaviscon Advance and any other oral medicine.
  • Avoid taking it together with other antacid or alginate-containing products to prevent excessive intake of sodium, potassium, or calcium.
  • If you take regular prescription medicine, check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting Gaviscon Advance.

Quick Tips

  • Take a sachet after meals and again before bed — this is when reflux is most likely to happen.
  • No water needed — the liquid can be swallowed straight from the sachet.
  • Keep other oral medicines at least 2 hours apart from your Gaviscon Advance dose.
  • Don’t double up with other antacids or reflux products at the same time.
  • Carry a sachet in your bag when eating out, travelling, or at work for on-the-go relief.
  • If you’re reaching for it most days of the week, check in with a pharmacist — frequent reflux may need a closer look.

How long will delivery take?

Within Malaysia, standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. Same-day delivery is available in the Klang Valley for orders placed before 12pm; orders placed after 12pm arrive by the end of the next day.

Orders to Singapore are sent as international deliveries and take 5 to 9 working days. A lump-sum shipping and handling fee applies to every overseas delivery and is shown at checkout.

What payment methods can I use?

Customers in Malaysia can pay by FPX online banking, credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), and supported e-wallets including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay and ShopeePay.

FPX and local e-wallets are tied to Malaysian bank and wallet accounts, so if your delivery address is in Singapore, use the payment options displayed at checkout for that address rather than assuming the same list applies.

Can Gaviscon Advance Liquid Sachets be delivered to Singapore?

Yes. DoctorOnCall ships to Singapore as an international order dispatched from Malaysia, arriving in 5 to 9 working days with a lump-sum shipping and handling fee.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.

Is Gaviscon Advance Liquid Sachets registered with the authorities?

Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.

An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my order?

DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.

For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.
