Overview

Himalaya Rumalaya Cream is an OTC (Over-the-Counter) topical herbal cream manufactured by The Himalaya Drug Company (Himalaya Wellness). Its formulation combines several traditional herbal extracts and oils — including Boswellia serrata (Shallaki) resin, Indian Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima) oil, Mentha arvensis (mint), Pinus roxburghii, Cinnamomum zeylanicum (cinnamon), Cedrus deodara (Himalayan cedar), and Vitex negundo — in a cream base intended for topical application.

The cream is supplied in a 30g tube and is designed to be massaged into the skin over the area of application. It sits within Himalaya’s wider Rumalaya range of topical and oral herbal products, which also includes Rumalaya Gel and Rumalaya Forte tablets as separate, differently formulated products.

As an OTC product, Himalaya Rumalaya Cream can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription through pharmacies and online retailers in Malaysia and Singapore. Anyone with broken skin, an active skin condition, or a known allergy to any listed ingredient should check with a pharmacist before use.

Directions for Use

  • Clean and dry the area of skin before application.
  • Apply a small quantity of cream to the affected area.
  • Gently massage until the cream is absorbed into the skin.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after application, avoiding contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Apply as directed on the packaging, typically up to 2–3 times a day, or as advised by a pharmacist.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly capped after each use, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild, temporary warming or cooling sensation at the site of application.
  • Common: Mild skin redness or itching in sensitive individuals.
  • Serious: Allergic contact dermatitis with marked redness, swelling, blistering, or persistent itching — discontinue use and seek medical advice if this occurs.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to any listed herbal ingredient, including cinnamon or wintergreen-type (salicylate) compounds.
  • Broken skin, open wounds, cuts, or areas of active infection.
  • Contact with the eyes, mouth, nose, or other mucous membranes.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Avoid combining with other topical analgesic or herbal rub products on the same area at the same time, as this may increase the risk of skin irritation.
  • Individuals with a known salicylate sensitivity should be cautious, as the Indian Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima) component naturally contains methyl salicylate.
  • No specific food interactions apply, as this product is for external skin use only.

Quick Tips

  • Do a small patch test on unaffected skin first if you have sensitive skin or a history of skin allergies.
  • Wash your hands immediately after application to avoid transferring the cream to your eyes.
  • Avoid applying a bandage or heat pad directly over freshly applied cream unless advised by a pharmacist.
  • Keep the tube cap tightly closed between uses to maintain the cream’s consistency.
  • Apply consistently at the same times each day to build a routine.
  • Store away from bathroom humidity and direct heat, which can affect the cream’s texture over time.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Shallaki / Boswellia (Boswellia serrata) resin.
  • Gandhapura taila / Indian Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima) oil.
  • Pudina (Mentha arvensis).
  • Sarala (Pinus roxburghii oleo-gum resin).
  • Tvak / Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum).
  • Devadaru / Himalayan Cedar (Cedrus deodara).
  • Nirgundi (Vitex negundo).
  • Combined in a topical cream base with standard cosmetic-grade excipients.

Relevant Information

Himalaya Rumalaya Cream combines Boswellia serrata (Shallaki), Indian Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima), Mentha arvensis, Pinus roxburghii, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cedrus deodara, and Vitex negundo in a cream base, supplied in a 30g tube manufactured by The Himalaya Drug Company.

Precautions: For external use only — avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes, and rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs. Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or areas of active infection. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a salicylate sensitivity, or have particularly sensitive or allergy-prone skin, do a small patch test or check with a pharmacist before regular use.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: If you notice worsening redness, swelling, blistering, or persistent itching at the application site, or if discomfort in the area of application does not improve after a reasonable period of regular use, stop using this product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
