Overview

HOE H-Cort 1% Cream contains Hydrocortisone 1% (active corticosteroid ingredient) and is presented as a cream. It is supplied in a pack size of 15g.

It is classified as a non-prescription medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Wash and gently pat the affected area dry, then apply a thin layer of cream and smooth it in gently, usually 1 to 2 times a day or as directed on the packaging or by a pharmacist; wash your hands after applying unless the hands are being treated, and avoid using it under airtight dressings unless a doctor advises otherwise.

Dosage

Apply a thin layer to the affected skin once or twice daily for up to about 7 days for a typical flare-up; if a longer course seems necessary, or the area affected is extensive, check with a pharmacist or doctor rather than continuing to self-treat beyond this.

Shelf Life

Unopened, the cream is generally stable for around 2 to 3 years from the date of manufacture; always check the expiry date printed on the tube or carton and discard the product if it is out of date or its texture or smell has changed.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight, close the tube tightly after each use, and keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Mild skin irritation (for topical forms)
  • Nausea or stomach upset
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Increased appetite or weight gain
  • Mood changes such as anxiety or irritability
  • Thinning of the skin with prolonged use
  • Slower wound healing
  • Increased susceptibility to infections

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone or other ingredients in the cream
  • Untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections at the treatment site, including cold sores, chickenpox, and fungal rashes
  • Acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis on the face
  • Broken or ulcerated skin, unless a doctor advises otherwise
  • Prolonged continuous use without medical supervision, particularly in infants and young children

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Combining with other topical corticosteroid products on the same skin area increases the risk of skin thinning and other steroid-related changes
  • No significant food interactions, as systemic absorption is minimal with correct short-term use
  • Tell a pharmacist if you are using other medicated creams, ointments, or dressings on the same area
  • Avoid layering other active skincare products, such as retinoids or strong exfoliating acids, over the treated area without checking with a pharmacist first

Quick Tips

  • Use only a thin film — a little goes a long way with this cream
  • Avoid long-term use on the face, groin, or underarms without medical advice
  • Stop use and see a doctor if the skin looks infected (increasing redness, pus, warmth, pain)
  • Do not cover the treated skin with airtight dressings unless a doctor recommends it
  • The cream’s lighter texture suits daytime use under clothing; consider the ointment version for very dry, thickened patches if advised

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Hydrocortisone 1% (active corticosteroid ingredient)
  • Cream base (an oil-in-water emulsion base typical of hydrocortisone creams)
  • Emulsifying and stabilizing excipients as per the manufacturer's formulation
  • Preservative components typical of topical cream bases

Relevant Information

HOE H-Cort 1% Cream provides a mild corticosteroid in a lighter, water-based cream form suited to short-term relief of mild skin inflammation and itching, including on moist or weeping skin where a greasier ointment may feel less comfortable. It is not intended for continuous long-term use, wide body-surface coverage, or use on infected, broken, or facial skin without medical guidance. See a pharmacist or doctor if symptoms persist beyond about a week or appear to worsen.
