Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel

Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel is a non-antibiotic, hypochlorous-acid (HOCl) based topical gel produced through electrolysis of purified water and salt (electrochemically activated water, using the same Microcyn Technology platform as related Hydrocyn/Dermacyn products). It is not an antibiotic drug.

Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel is available over the counter in Malaysia without a prescription, and is alcohol-free and pH-neutral, making it suitable for repeated application on broken or sensitive skin, including for children under adult supervision. It is typically supplied in a 15g tube for no-rinse topical application, and is intended for external use only.

The gel’s hypochlorous acid content acts in the same way the body’s own neutrophils use HOCl as part of the natural immune response — by oxidising and disrupting the outer membranes and proteins of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms. Being formulated as a gel rather than a liquid, it also stays in longer contact with the applied surface than a spray or solution.

This is a physical, oxidative antimicrobial action rather than a pharmacological antibiotic mechanism, so it does not carry the resistance concerns associated with antibiotic overuse, and it is generally gentle on healthy surrounding skin.

Gently clean the wound area first if it is visibly soiled. Apply a thin, even layer of gel directly onto the wound or affected skin — there is no need to rinse it off. Cover with a sterile dressing if the area needs protection, or leave uncovered to air-dry for minor superficial wounds as advised. Repeat two to three times daily, or as directed, reapplying at each dressing change for covered wounds.

Not applicable in the conventional medicine sense — Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel is for external, topical application only and must not be swallowed. As a general guide, apply a thin layer to the affected area two to three times daily, or as directed by a doctor, pharmacist, or wound care professional.

Use Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel before the expiry date printed on the tube and outer carton. Do not use the product past its expiry date, or if the gel’s texture, colour, or smell appears different from normal.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep out of the reach of children. Keep the tube tightly capped between uses, and avoid letting the tube tip touch the wound directly to prevent contamination. Once opened, use within the period stated on the packaging, and discard if the product’s appearance changes, as no separate in-use stability period beyond the labelled information has been confirmed.

• Common: Mild, temporary burning or stinging sensation immediately after application.
• Common: Slight redness, dryness, or irritation of the skin around the wound.
• Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction, such as significant swelling, a spreading rash, or blistering — stop use and seek medical attention if these occur.

• Known hypersensitivity or allergy to hypochlorous acid or any other ingredient in the gel.
• Not a substitute for proper medical evaluation and treatment of deep, heavily infected, or non-healing wounds, including diabetic ulcers that are worsening.
• Avoid application near or in the eyes; rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if accidental contact occurs.

• No clinically significant drug or food interactions are known for Hydrocyn Aqua Wound Gel when used topically as directed.
• It may generally be used together with other wound dressings, but different topical wound products should not be applied on top of one another on the same wound without advice from a pharmacist or doctor.
• Tell your pharmacist or doctor about any other topical or systemic treatments you are using for the same wound, particularly for chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers, so care can be properly coordinated.

• Apply a thin, even layer rather than a thick coating — a little goes a long way with this gel.
• No rinsing is needed after application; simply let it absorb or cover with a dressing as needed.
• Keep the tube capped tightly and avoid double-dipping fingers into the tube to reduce contamination risk.
• Apply at the recommended frequency and at consistent intervals.

Precautions: This product is not a treatment for underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or poor circulation. When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if a wound is deep, large, does not stop bleeding, shows signs of infection such as increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus, is associated with fever, or is not healing as expected — this is especially important for diabetic ulcers and pressure sores, which need regular professional review.
