Overview

Ikervis 1mg/ml Eye Drop Emulsion contains ciclosporin 1mg/ml as a preservative-free ophthalmic emulsion, an immunomodulating eye drop used to treat severe dry eye disease (keratitis) in adults whose condition has not improved despite using artificial tears/lubricant eye drops.

Ciclosporin works by suppressing the local, T-cell-driven immune inflammation on the surface of the eye that underlies chronic severe dry eye disease. By calming this inflammatory response, it helps improve tear film quality and reduce ongoing damage to the cornea.

How it Works

Ciclosporin is a calcineurin inhibitor that, when applied topically, reduces activation of T-lymphocytes on the ocular surface, lowering the release of inflammatory cytokines that drive chronic dry eye inflammation and helping to restore a healthier tear film over time.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. Remove one single-use container from the foil pouch just before use and discard any unused emulsion after application – do not keep an opened container for later use. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and instil one drop into the pouch formed, avoiding contact between the tip and the eye or any surface. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instillation and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

Dosage

The usual dose of Ikervis 1mg/ml Eye Drop Emulsion is one drop in each affected eye, once daily in the evening. Improvement in dry eye symptoms typically takes several weeks of regular use to become noticeable, and your doctor will advise how long to continue treatment based on your response.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C. Keep the single-use containers in the original foil pouch to protect from light, and use each container immediately after opening, discarding any remaining emulsion. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ikervis 1mg/ml Eye Drop Emulsion used for?

Ikervis 1mg/ml Eye Drop Emulsion is used to treat severe dry eye disease (keratitis) in adults who have not had sufficient improvement from artificial tears or lubricant eye drops alone.

Why does this eye drop sting when I use it?

Stinging or burning on instillation is a very common and expected effect of ciclosporin eye drops, especially in the first weeks of use. It usually becomes less noticeable with continued regular use, but tell your doctor if it is severe or does not improve.

Can I reuse a single-use container if there is emulsion left?

No, each single-use container is intended for one application only, in one or both eyes as directed, and any remaining emulsion should be discarded immediately after use to prevent contamination.

Can I wear contact lenses while using this eye drop?

You should remove contact lenses before applying this eye drop and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in, as the emulsion is not intended to be used with lenses in place.

How long before I notice an improvement in my dry eye symptoms?

Improvement in severe dry eye disease with ciclosporin eye drops is usually gradual, often taking several weeks or longer of regular daily use. Continue using it as prescribed even if you do not notice an immediate change.
