Kanolone Oral Base Paste

Kanolone Oral Base Paste is a topical oral treatment containing triamcinolone acetonide, a corticosteroid, formulated in an adhesive Orabase-type paste base that is designed to be applied directly onto lesions inside the mouth. It is available in Malaysia without a prescription and belongs to the same general class of topical oral corticosteroid pastes as other well-known dental-ulcer treatments.

It is used to relieve the pain, redness, and swelling of recurrent mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers), minor oral inflammatory lesions, and traumatic ulcers such as those caused by braces, dentures, or accidental cheek-biting. The paste works locally at the site of application and is intended for short-term symptomatic relief rather than as a cure for the underlying cause of the ulcer.

Triamcinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid that reduces local inflammation by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators at the site of the ulcer, while the adhesive paste base clings to moist oral mucosa to form a thin protective film over the lesion, shielding it from further irritation by food, saliva, and friction so the area can be more comfortable while it heals naturally.

Gently pat the affected area dry with a clean tissue, then apply a thin layer of the paste directly onto the ulcer or lesion using a clean fingertip or a cotton bud, pressing lightly for a few seconds until a smooth, slippery film forms over the area. Use after meals and again before bedtime for the best contact time, and avoid rubbing the paste in or eating, drinking, or rinsing the mouth for about 30 minutes after application.

Apply a small, thin layer of paste to each affected ulcer 2 to 3 times a day, preferably after meals and at bedtime, without exceeding the frequency stated on the packaging or by your pharmacist. If there is no improvement after 7 days of regular use, or if the ulcer worsens, stop use and consult a doctor or dentist.

When stored correctly and unopened, Kanolone Oral Base Paste is typically stable for up to 24 to 36 months from the date of manufacture. Always check the expiry date printed on the tube and carton before use, and discard the product if it has expired or if its colour, texture, or smell has changed.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed after each use, and keep it out of the reach and sight of children.

• Oral ulcers or lesions caused by an untreated fungal infection (such as oral thrush)
• Oral lesions caused by an untreated viral infection (such as herpes simplex)
• Oral lesions caused by an untreated bacterial infection
• Not intended for continuous, long-term daily use without medical or dental advice

• Minimal systemic absorption is expected when used as directed, so significant drug interactions are uncommon
• Using other topical oral corticosteroid products at the same time may increase the risk of local side effects
• Inform your pharmacist of any other dental or oral medications you are using
• No significant food interactions are expected, though very hot, spicy, or acidic foods may irritate the ulcer while it is healing

• Apply after meals and before bedtime for the longest contact time on the ulcer
• Avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing your mouth for about 30 minutes after application
• Do not use continuously for more than 7 days without seeing a doctor or dentist
• Keep the affected area clean and avoid further irritation from sharp or hard foods
• See a dentist or doctor if the ulcer persists beyond 2 weeks or keeps recurring
• Do not share your tube with others to avoid cross-infection

Kanolone Oral Base Paste provides symptomatic relief and is not a cure for the underlying cause of mouth ulcers. Recurrent ulcers that keep coming back, or a single ulcer that fails to heal within 1-2 weeks, may need further evaluation by a doctor or dentist to rule out other causes.
