Overview

MPI Trilon E Cream is supplied as a cream, with Econazole Nitrate and Triamcinolone Acetonide. It is supplied in a pack size of 15g.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Wash and gently dry the affected area before use, then apply a thin layer of MPI Trilon E Cream to the affected skin and the immediately surrounding area, usually twice a day or as directed on the packaging or by your pharmacist. Rub in gently until absorbed, wash your hands afterwards unless the hands themselves are being treated, and avoid covering the area with an airtight dressing unless specifically advised, as this can increase steroid absorption through the skin.

Dosage

The usual course is application twice daily for up to about 2 weeks, though the exact duration depends on the site and severity of the infection and should follow the product label or pharmacist’s advice. Because prolonged use of a steroid-containing cream can thin the skin, treatment beyond 2 to 4 weeks, or use on the face, groin, or in children, should only continue under medical supervision.

Shelf Life

MPI Trilon E Cream remains stable until the expiry date printed on the tube and outer carton when stored correctly and unopened. Once opened, it should generally be used within the period stated on the packaging or advised by your pharmacist, and should not be kept for use on a future, unrelated skin problem without checking with a healthcare professional first.

Storage Instructions

Store MPI Trilon E Cream below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the tube tightly closed after each use. Do not freeze, and keep the cream out of reach and sight of children at all times.

Side Effects

Econazole

  • Mild skin irritation or redness at the application site
  • Itching or burning sensation
  • Dry or flaky skin
  • Swelling or rash (rare)

Triamcinolone

  • Skin irritation, dryness, or redness (for topical forms)
  • Thinning of the skin with prolonged use
  • Headache or dizziness (especially with nasal or injectable forms)
  • Easy bruising or delayed wound healing
  • Increased risk of infections
  • Changes in mood or sleep patterns
  • Nosebleeds or sore throat (with nasal spray use)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to econazole, triamcinolone, or any other ingredient in the cream
  • Untreated bacterial or viral skin infections, including cold sores, chickenpox, or shingles, at the site of application
  • Acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis on the face, which steroid creams can worsen
  • Prolonged, unsupervised use on the face, groin, armpits, or in young children
  • Application to open wounds or broken skin unless specifically directed by a doctor

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other topical steroid or antifungal products applied to the same area, which may increase the risk of skin thinning or dilute the intended effect
  • Occlusive dressings or tight clothing over the treated area, which can increase steroid absorption through the skin
  • No clinically significant systemic food or drug interactions are typically expected with short-term, correctly applied topical use, as absorption into the bloodstream is minimal
  • Inform your pharmacist of any other skin treatments you are using before starting this cream

Quick Tips

  • Use for the shortest time needed to clear symptoms, and avoid long-term continuous use without medical advice
  • Apply only a thin layer to the affected area and slightly beyond its edges
  • Avoid using on the face, groin, or in skin folds for prolonged periods without checking with a pharmacist or doctor
  • Keep the area clean and dry, especially in skin folds where fungal infections thrive
  • See a doctor if the rash worsens, spreads, or fails to improve within 1 to 2 weeks

Relevant Information

MPI Trilon E Cream is intended specifically for fungal skin infections that are also notably inflamed or itchy, rather than for general skin rashes, eczema without infection, or bacterial or viral skin conditions, since using a steroid-containing cream on the wrong type of rash can allow an untreated infection to worsen; a pharmacist can help confirm this cream is the right choice for your symptoms.
