Overview

Mydfrin 2.5% Solution is supplied as a solution, with Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 2.5%. It is supplied in a pack size of 5ml.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Mydfrin 2.5% Solution is administered by, or under the direct supervision of, an eye care professional. Typically, one drop is instilled into the lower conjunctival sac of the eye being examined, with any excess solution gently blotted away with a clean tissue. Light pressure on the inner corner of the eye (punctal occlusion) for about a minute after instillation is often used to reduce the amount of drug absorbed into the general circulation. This medicine should not be self-administered outside a clinical setting without a doctor’s specific instruction.

Dosage

The usual clinical dose is one drop of Mydfrin 2.5% Solution instilled into the eye approximately 15 to 30 minutes before the examination or procedure requiring dilation, with a second drop sometimes given if the pupil has not dilated sufficiently. The exact dose, frequency, and whether the lower-strength 2.5% (rather than 10%) formulation is used depends on the patient’s age, cardiovascular health, and the judgement of the administering doctor or ophthalmologist, and should never be adjusted without medical advice.

Shelf Life

Unopened, Mydfrin 2.5% Solution is generally stable until the expiry date printed on the bottle and outer carton. Once opened, ophthalmic solutions such as this are typically recommended for use within about 4 weeks, after which any remaining solution should be discarded even if the printed expiry date has not yet passed, as sterility cannot be guaranteed beyond that point.

Storage Instructions

Store Mydfrin 2.5% Solution below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep the bottle tightly closed between uses. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach and sight of children, and avoid letting the dropper tip touch the eye, fingers, or any other surface to prevent contamination of the remaining solution.
